From Publishers Weekly
A former Limbaugh-enthralled, propaganda-spouting "dittohead," Derych details in this blog-turned-book the "thousand small cuts" that cured him of his liberal-hating views. His conversion resulted from a handful of pedestrian eye-openers: Derych was a sheltered, narrow-minded homophobe until he learned a friend of his was gay; Derych was rabidly pro-life until he realized someone he knew and respected had had an abortion; Derych took Fox News mouthpiece Sean Hannity at face value until a preposterous claim about tax cuts led him to "check the facts." This is a quick, lean read, and though Derych is prone to limp prose (referring to Limbaugh as a "chubby addict" is grating even to those who believe worse), it's not poorly written. The problem is how author condescends to readers; it's like a recent born-again preaching to the congregation during his first trip to church.

Prosecutors say silence in CIA leak case may signal Rove indictment coming
RAW STORY
Published: Wednesday May 24, 2006
MSNBC's coverage of the CIA leak case continued Wednesday with new suggestions that presidential adviser Karl Rove may yet be indicted. The indictment of 'Bush's Brain' seemed imminent after reports from MSNBC and the Washington Post indicating that the Rove camp expected a decision earlier this month -- but it has now been 28 days since Rove testified for a fifth time before the grand jury investigating the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame.
MSNBC's David Shuster says former federal prosecutors believe the silence from Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald doesn't bode well for Rove.
"Fitzgerald's office refuses to comment," Shuster said. "But former federal prosecutors describe the following procedure when considering an indictment: First, a prosecution team would review the evidence. Then, they would examine case law on the relevant criminal statutes. And finally, the prosecutors would decide whether a reasonable jury would convict at trial."
Here's the video -- the transcript follows.
The relevant transcript from Wednesday's Hardball follows.
#
CHRIS MATTHEWS, MSNBC ANCHOR: The grand jury investigating the CIA leak case met again today at the courthouse. But prosecutors from Patrick Fitzgerald's office were not there... and there was no sign the grand jury received evidence on presidential advisor Karl Rove. Rove's attorneys are waiting for a decision from Fitzgerald on whether Rove will be charged or cleared.
So the question now is, what's the procedure for deciding if a crime has been committed? Hardball correspondent David Shuster has been talking with former federal prosecutors who were once in a similar position and he has this report.

Olbermann: Meantime, we noted here 24 hours ago that this seems to be an administration that is outwardly unsusceptible to irony or charges of hypocrisy. But even that Teflon coating is facing a heavy-duty fried-egg stain. While the Bush press office and responsive reporters and talk show hosts desperately continue to accuse the, quote, “mainstream media” of ignoring the, quote, "good news from Iraq," "The Washington Post" has revealed that for the last six months, the Voice of America, the U.S. government-run news organization, has not had a correspondent in Baghdad because it‘s just too dangerous.

Karl Rove is going about business as usual. He met with the Republican rank and file today about immigration. This doesn't sound like a man who fears an imminent indictment, although, even if he did, what choice would he have but to carry on his regular duties?
The media also seems to be letting up on the attacks on Jason Leopold. Keith Olbermann on Countdown last night noted (as I did yesterday morning) that Jason Leopold beat the the New York Daily News by two months in reporting about Robert Grenier's connection to the Scooter Libby case. Jason's article was written March 18, the day after Libby's lawyers revealed it in a pleading.

Shuster: Is It Not If, But When?
By Christy Hardin Smith @ 3:30 pm
David Shuster had a catch-up report on Hardball this evening regarding the Fitzgerald investigation and Karl Rove’s numerous trips to the grand jury. With all the tea leaf reading and big question asking that everyone has been doing surrounding this case, Shuster went to two former US Attorneys for some information and opinion/analysis.
And the word from both former USAttys wasn’t good for Rove. In their opinion, at least, the fact that Rove has not yet been cleared, even after his unusual fifth appearance for testimony before the grand jury, is a sign that Fitzgerald is seriously considering indictment. I have to say, and it’s not just wishful thinking on my part, I agree. Had Fitzgerald been swayed by Karl’s last minute attempt as ass-saving maneuvers, he would have already let him off the hook.
But that hasn’t happened.
According to Shuster, there are serious questions as to whether Fitzgerald believes Rove with regard to his testimony on the conversation with Matt Cooper. This is evidenced by how many times it has come up during questioning before the grand jury — at least via the leaks we’ve had from Gold Bars Luskin and others on Team Karl. And it was something that Rove expressed to friends after his last round of testimony — that the questioning was detailed and very thorough — you don’t bother with sharp questioning if you aren’t very, very interested in the answers that you are given.
A big consideration for any prosecutor is whether a reasonable jury would find in the government’s favor at trial. You don’t bring a case that you know is a loser — at least not if you can help it. You either keep investigating until you nail the SOB, or you don’t bring the case. The public doesn’t need to have its time or its money wasted on a trial that is a loser from the start — sometimes, it is to the state’s advantage to press a difficult case, because the matter is that important or the stakes for the victim require it (it’s true for a lot of child sexual abuse cases, where you have the word of a small child against an adult, and the odds are rarely in your favor in those cases…but you bring

Oh My
We'll miss you Denny:
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine his role in an ongoing public corruption probe into members of Congress, ABC News has learned from high level official sources.
Federal officials say the information implicating Hastert was developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.
Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote three years ago, urging the Secretary of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed with other tribes.
The other tribes were represented by convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff who reportedly has provided details of his dealings with Hastert as part of his plea agreement with the government.
The letter was written shortly after a fund-raiser for Hastert at a restaurant owned by Abramoff. Abramoff and his clients contributed more than $26,000 at the time.
And prediction of the day goes to Lord High Everything Else, Mike Tomasky.

You know, all these illegals hasn't really helped the price of tomatoes. They are two dollars a pound where I live. You'd think they would be 25 cents a pound if the logic that illegals do the job Americans won't do for less money...
Illegal aliens are more important to this Congress than securing our borders and our ports, more important than those legal immigrants who have waited in line and who follow the law. The Senate has added to the litany of lunacy that makes up what it calls reform: Illegal aliens would only have to pay back taxes on three of the past five years, they will not be prosecuted for felonies such as identity theft or purchasing or using fraudulent Social Security cards, and unlike millions of visa holders who have to leave the country to have them renewed, they may simply remain in the United States while this Congress and this president give away all the benefits and privileges of American citizenship.
This is an outright assault in the elitist war on the middle class. And working men and women who've already borne the pain of losing good-paying manufacturing jobs and having middle-class jobs outsourced to cheap foreign labor markets are faced with the onslaught of more illegal immigration and cheap labor into the American economy. This president and Congress talk about bringing illegal aliens out of the shadows while they turn out the lights on our middle class.

Bush backs VA chief after data breach By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer
47 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - VA Secretary Jim Nicholson got an endorsement Wednesday from President Bush — and a summons to Capitol Hill — after the theft of veterans' personal information that has become one of the nation's largest security breaches
Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill are asking that Nicholson explain how his department handled the theft of sensitive personal data on 26.5 million veterans. They have called the Veterans Affairs secretary to appear in two emergency hearings Thursday in the House and Senate.
White House press secretary Tony Snow said Bush had "full faith and confidence" in Nicholson. Snow originally had declined to issue a statement of support in the president's name but then said he wanted to clarify his remarks.

Okay, sorry. I misinterpreted. I just know from my own extended family that at least some instances of homosexuality are genetic -- no weak father, dominant mother, abused childhood crap. I have seen children who were simply born with gay, cross-gender tenencies.

Posted by: Oblio at May 24, 2006 07:48 PM
Of course it would be okay to teach everyone Spanish. The problems with unregullated inmigration, however, are legion. Amoung them are rapidly increasing inequality, environmental devastation following unending development and bear and cougar attacks as we take away all their habitat.

You know, hitting the pillow is what made me gay in the first place.
Posted by: Fritz at May 24, 2006 7:55 PM
Mom,mom, mom whyd, you do that to me.
-SHE'S NOT A CHRISTIAN!!!! -Or maybe she was and that was her problem, the world may never know. But hes going to practice loosing his temper and violent response to stress all the same.By the way,you arent supposed to do that.Conect violent outburst with stress because in a criticle situation you may go berserk in an area where your prescious pillow and racket arent around.---At a wedding:Someone drops the cake of the daughter of this person-Them,"Motherfucker" and ensues a series of stabbings with candlesticks and butterknives and forks. They cart her or him away in a straight jacket...etc...etc.
Posted by: daniel at May 24, 2006 7:55 PM
That reminds me of that Oion headline: something like "Gay Christian back in closet; grateful for straitjacketed life."

Hello trubble!
Should I tell a gay Mary Cheney joke, or would that be too obviously gay bashing. (I actually don't care what you are, as long as you love)
Posted by: MrMickey'sMom at May 24, 2006 7:55 PM
The bullshit runs deep in the Cheney family.

Mary Cheney was on Letterman last Friday night.
He was RELENTLESS with her (making the point that she is profitting from this book when she could've pointed this stuff out to POTUS

Posted by: Jax at May 24, 2006 7:57 PM
It is my personal belief that you can't genetically trace love.
Next time I will be sure to watch a piece in it's entirety before commenting on it. my bad

Isn't tennis kind of a gay sport anyway? Sweating, grunting men in summer heat jumping around in tighty whities? I think the pattern her is; if you own a tennis racket in the first place, you're gay.

[James Dobson and his 8-year-old boy disrobe and enter the steaming shower]
Dobson's boy [noticing]: "Gosh dad, why is your thingie standing up?"
Dobson: "It's, uh, standing guard, son."
Dobson's boy: "Standing guard? Against what?"
Dobson: "A secret Satanic force, one we can't ever talk about but must guard against. Now, not a word of this to your mother, OK?"
Dobson's boy: "OK, dad. Um, dad?"
Dobson: "Yes, son."
Dobson's boy: "Why are you touching yourself like that?"
Dobson: "I'm, uh, beating back the devil, son."
Dobson's boy: "Man alive! Are you ever! Can I help?"
Dobson [panicking, thunderously]: "NO!"
[heard offstage, a woman's voice]
Mrs. Dobson: "Jaaaaames? Everything all right in there?"
Dobson [a quaky little quiver trilling in the back of his raised overly-reassuring voice]: "Yeeees, yes, mother. Everything's fiiiine!"
Dobson's boy: "Dad? How will we know it when we see it, dad, the Satanic forces, I mean?"
Dobson [resuming his labors]: "You'll just have to trust me, son. I'll know."
Dobson's boy: "Oh. OK. Um, dad?"
Dobson: "Yes, son."
Dobson's boy: "Why is mine so much bigger'n yours?"
Dobson [a pause, thinking, then]: "Your thingie, uh, shrinks as you grow older, son."
Dobson's boy: "Man, I can't wait to tell mom how I watched dad beat back the devil!"
Dobson: "This is our little secret, son. OK?"
Dobson's boy: "Uh, OK."
Dobson: "Remember how I let you discipline the dachsund that one time?"
Dobson's boy: "Boy howdy, do I? Beat the tar out of it."
Dobson: "It's like that. It is a covenant in discipline between you and me."
Dobson's boy: "OK, dad. Whatever you say."
