For the love of . . . I just read this. Is it news to anyone else?
From CNN (at the bottom of the article): http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/11/nsa.phonerecords/index.html
"The Justice Department has been denied security clearances for access to information, which prompted it to drop an investigation into the domestic spying program revealed late last year by the New York Times. (Full story)
"The Democrats' No. 2 member of the Senate, Sen. Richard Durbin, called the development "evidence of a cover-up."
""The fact ... that the Department of Justice has abandoned their own investigation of this administration's wrongdoing because there's been a refusal to give investigators security clearances is clear evidence of a cover-up within the administration.""
Great, so the administration can just say its illegal activities are classified, and the investigation disappears with a wimper.

I was taught that the military gave the name "Tokyo Rose" to every female English-speaking broadcaster of Japanese propaganda during WW2.
Apparently, one of the Tokyo Rose identities was pardoned of her treason charge. I guess this is the woman to whom she referred.
Anyway, she was definitely NOT the only "Tokyo Rose," so my point stands.

The Republican Agenda for 2006: Tax Cuts for a Favored Few
The New York Times | Editorial
Here is the way it works.
Republicans give the rich thousands of dollars and they get kickbacks they call political donations.
Now.. the lower classes down the chain...the middle class, etc. think they are getting big tax cuts,too....a.k.a. the Republican Party suckers...so the republicans get kickbacks here is the form of votes.
It is one huge scam..Way to go Republicans.

Ambien doesn't do didly for me. I had a 'scrip just prior to my kidney tranplant to try to help me sleep. The doctor told me to take it once I got into bed and only once I got into bed.
So .. the first night I am all cautious and worried. Crawled into bed .. took the Ambien and 5 hours later I was still awake. So .. being that kind of person .. I took two the next night .. was still awake 6 hours later!! : D - LOL! Just does not work for my body chemistry.
Ativan is a motherfucker .. do not .. and I am being VERY serious here - DO NOT DRINK while taking Ativan. I was prescribed Ativan instead of therapy when I was diagnosed at 20 with Kidney Disease that would kill my kidneys forcing me into dialysis and transplant. I was alone at university and was totally freaking out .. then my supportive boyfriend dumped me .. and so I started taking the Ativan with Cuervo Gold and Absolut straight. Very Bad idea!! Even alittle alcohol magnifies the effects of Ativan.. I was very lucky I didn't die on several occasions.
As for my experience with Klonopin .. I had to take that for a seizure disorder caused by toxins due to ineffective dialysis. Same deal .. no drinkie with those either.
I am a veritable font of drug info!! ; ) I am like a walking talking PDR!!! : D - LOL!!! Not harassing ya .. just warning ya .. getting your stomach pumped out and eventually needing the services at Hazelden ain't no fun!

Aiming for a More Subtle Fighting Force
General says U.S. troops can counter insurgency best by preserving Iraqis' lives and honor.
By James Rainey, Times Staff Writer - May 9, 2006
BAGHDAD ? Some American troops in Iraq have been their "own worst enemy," unintentionally creating new insurgents by treating the Iraqi people in a heavy-handed or insensitive manner, according to the U.S. commander in charge of day-to-day military operations.
Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli, in a weekend training session with troops and in an interview afterward, said he found a need to reemphasize to soldiers that they must use reasonable force and treat the Iraqi culture with respect, in part because the insurgency has persisted and grown.
"We have to understand that the way we treat Iraqis has a direct effect on the number of insurgents that we are fighting.... For every one that I kill, I create almost 10 more."
- Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli, who has been training U.S. troops to be more culturally sensitive and to use less force.

Please move the Majority Report to later in the night and move Mike Malloy into their slot.

Dean: Dems oppose gay marriage
May 11th, 2006 at 10:41:20
Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean has contradicted his party's platform and infuriated gay rights advocates by saying the party's platform states "marriage is between a man and a woman."
"The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says marriage is between a man and a woman," Dean said May 10 during a "700 Club" program hosted by conservative Christian leader Pat Robertson on his Christian Broadcasting Network.

This "pump more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere" jackhole has obviously not done his research. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_dimming
The fact that we are putting out sooty particulates in UNBELIEVEABLE amounts every day is creating thicker and more reflective clouds... That is helping to counteract global warming to a large degree. Once Carbon Dioxide levels reach a certain point and overcome the effects of global dimming, the rate of temperature increase will be EXPONENTIAL!!! This is NO BS! I estimate we have 30-50 years of "marginal" temperature increases before the snap occurs and the worst case scenarios (ice caps melting, jet stream stopping, etc...) become facts of life! WAKE UP AMERICA!!! We lead the way! BE MAD! GET SOMETHING DONE, WE HAVE THE POWER (well, after monky bush is ousted)!

Does this sound familiar? Has that happened here during 9/11?
Britain Missed Chances at Foiling Bombings By DAVID STRINGER, Associated Press Writer
43 minutes ago
Britain's intelligence agencies missed chances to thwart last year's transit attacks by failing to follow up leads on two of the men who became the country's first suicide bombers, major reports said Thursday.
The government blamed a lack of funds, a too-slow buildup of intelligence staff in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, and spies' failure to anticipate that British citizens would contemplate suicide attacks on their homeland.
But the reports found "no culpable failures" by agencies, including the MI5 and MI6 intelligence services, saying the bombings of three London subways and a double-decker bus July 7 came without warning.
Britain's Home Office said in one of the reports that there is "as yet no firm evidence" of al-Qaida's role, if any, in organizing the attacks, which killed 52 commuters and the four bombers.
However, suspected ringleader Mohammed Sidique Khan and accomplice Shezad Tanweer traveled to Pakistan and it is "likely that they had some contact with al-Qaida figures," said a second report, by the Intelligence and Security Committee, a panel of nine British lawmakers.
In September, Khan made a posthumous farewell in a videotape aired on Al-Jazeera television. Khan said he was inspired by al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri and by the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi.

ALL YOUR DATABASE ARE BELONG TO US
Two big steps towards our glorious destination of an authoritarian military-dictatorship called, "America" this week. First the nomination of General Hayden to chief spook and today the revelation that the government has most of your phone records. Oh embraceable you, General H! Bravo for your bold effort to monitor all communications within the Homeland.
It is a shame that the secret is out, though. I tend to agree with Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas who said, "One of the reasons the administration doesn't tell more members of Congress about such programs is because Congress leaks." Exactly right, and I advocate that the executive cut the Congress out of the loop altogether. Really the Congress is just for show anyway, call it democratic window-dressing on the emperor's palace.
And to you, the citizen I say, you have nothing to fear from your government unless you are doing something wrong. Have you made phone-calls to terrorists? Have you ordered Zanku Chicken to go? Have you called a pharmacy in Canada? Have you phoned a full-release masseuse? Have you dialed a registered Democrat? Have you called your newspaper? If you've answered "no" to all these questions then just relax already.

Posted by: ÇħűБъÿ۞ßűБъåřąċħ at May 11, 2006 7:39 PM
So why is the government tracking your calls if you're an honest proletarian? Well it's a little complicated. It's all a matter of contrast. See, the terrorists are the subjects, and you are the background. So if we only monitor the terrorists, the picture we paint is like a polar-bear in a snow-storm, you just can't see him. That's where you come in. You are the background that must be viewed to bring the terrorist in to sharp relief.
So don't worry. Qwest communications should worry. Those traitors have refused to comply with the decrees from Washington. Perhaps Osama Bin-Laden will do an ad for them, I'm sure they'll appreciate the new business.
So what else does the administration have along these pipelines? Well first we are going to centralize the medical databases and mine those for the "hook-nose" gene which seems to coincide with terrorism. When those sweeps occur you'll probably hear from so-called "innocent" deli-owners, pawnbrokers, Hollywood agents, and New Yorkers who will also be caught in the dragnet. Well Fritz always says, better that ten innocent men be executed than for one guilty man to go free.

National Gay and Lesbian Task Force slams Howard Dean, Returns $5,000 gift from DNC
After it was reported that Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean misrepresented the portions of the party platform relating to marriage, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force returned a $5,000 contribution to the party, PageOneQ has learned.
In a release issued by the Task Force, a quote from Chairman Dean was reported as:
"The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what it says. I think where we may take exception with some religious leaders is that we believe in inclusion, that everybody deserves to live with dignity and respect, and that equal rights under the law are important."

"The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says marriage is between a man and a woman," Dean said May 10 during a "700 Club" program hosted by conservative Christian leader Pat Robertson on his Christian Broadcasting Network.

How about this?
Marrage is between a man and a woman.
Gayrage is between a whatever and a whatever.
I mean, it's all about a word isn't it. And isn't it a little silly?

HRC: 'Governor Dean's Comments Reflect Serious Lack of Leadership'
The Human Right Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT civil rights organization has responded to the controversy around DNC Chairman Howard Dean's comments on the 700 Club on same sex marriage equality.
WASHINGTON - Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese made the following statement regarding Governor Howard Dean's recent comments on the Christian Broadcasting Network:
"Governor Dean's comments weren't a mere slip of the tongue but a glaring reminder of the governor's lack of leadership on this issue," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "As we face a Senate vote in June that threatens to put discrimination in our Constitution, Governor Dean should not only have known better but he should have used the opportunity to speak out about the lack of values involved in the current constitutional debate.

Sure, if you go back far enough in time, back to the Carboniferous period, carbon dioxide levels were much higher than now -- it supported all the plant growth that created the fossil fuel deposits we're burning up today.
Point is, since then the biosphere has evolved with, and we've built our cities, etc. in a world with lower levels.
Go back far enough and the Earth was a volcanic, acidic Hades; because "it was like that before", that makes it OK to return to it ?
Climate change denyers and excusers can kiss my warm ass . . .

It also comes amid heightened congressional scrutiny of contracts and audits showing the government wasted hundreds of millions of dollars -- much of it on large contracts awarded to large, politically connected companies -- in the initial days after the Aug. 29 storm.
Last week, the Senate passed a little-noticed provision in its $109 billion Iraq and hurricane relief bill that would block the government from entering into no-bid contracts in excess of $500,000. The provision was prompted by numerous reports of bloated Katrina-related contracts.
"Now that we are in the rebuilding phase, controls are more important than ever," said Rep. Todd Platts, R-Pa., chairman of the House Government Reform subcommittee on management, finance and accountability.

Our Canadian neo-con government is planning to help the Bush corporatists in Afghanistan long term, maybe as long as 10 years.
The same rhetoric, excuses, vilification, demonization, crusade talk, right down to the Bush Co phrasology.
Canadian neo-cons also suck sewer gas big time.

According to CNN there is a suit against ST&T in california about allowing the gov't to have phone files without the owners permission.
I guess we could all sue them. AT&T is not a gov't agency and in their privacy statement they are not allowed to release those records without a sabpena!
This is going to get nasty now. Need to push this from out here also!!

I dunno Jim. Everything that made life worth the effort to me is gone. Hell, everything that made it bearable is gone. If I lose my home, I'm pretty much done. It's just all too much to lose in such a short period. Sometimes I think maybe I'll be ok, other times I know I won't.

Dean: No, Really, Democrats are Conservative Republicans!
May 11 2006 10:15 AM
By CharlieRichards
What a tailor he must have. Democratic leader Howard Dean donned sheep’s clothing for a Christian Broadcasting Network interview earlier this week. Well according to several gay magazines, the interview was on the 700 Club with Pat Robertson, but Pat Roberson’s site makes no such claim. It may have been a news segment played on the program. Either way, Dean was trying to cozy up to Christians.
The real story is what Dean said:
“The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what it says. I think where we may take exception with some religious leaders is that we believe in inclusion, that everybody deserves to live with dignity and respect, and that equal rights under the law are important.”
