I saw the pic of the chief. It seems like a little piece of sand on the ground compared to the story I just read for the second time in Rolling Stone.
This is what we really have to deal with. This is why we have such a difficulty dealing with the power of the Rs and their attempt to destroy the agencies and the fabric of government. This scares me.
Please read this article and do a show on it. Jeanene will call them hacks and make noise about it, but to understand it and to know who and what we're dealing with is the only way to take back the country and the beautiful, peaceful society we all long for.
It's so insane that I can't even imagine how to overcome the kind of power these real right wing groups have! YIKES... America is ailing more than I thought. The Bushies are not all we need to get rid of. How did this happen?

Whistleblowing Is Patriotic
Today, an op-ed by Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Porter Goss ran in The New York Times. Numerous details, but, more importantly, the overall argument, are wrong. First, the big kahuna: Goss's assertion that "the term 'whistleblower' has been misappropriated."
Goss says that "those who choose to bypass the law and go straight to the press are not noble, honorable or patriotic. Nor are they whistleblowers." Wrong. People who are trying to stop the government from pursuing illegal activities or expose corruption are whistleblowers, are patriotic and deserving of our respect.
Overwhelmingly, the men and women who do go to the press are coming forward with information they believe needs to become public, because there are grave abuses, whether it is an exorbitant waste of taxpayer dollars, a threat to our constitutional system of government, or something else of significant public interest. And when they do go to the media, operational details that can benefit our enemies are almost never revealed.
But why go to the press when Goss says that the "Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act [ensures] that current or former employees could petition Congress, after raising concerns within their respective agency, consistent with the need to protect classified information"? The answer is quite simple: the Intelligence Community Whistleblower Protection Act is more like an Intelligence Community Whistleblower Control Act, especially when it comes to the CIA.
As we've stated before, the Act says that CIA whistleblowers cannot go to congressional intelligence committees without the CIA director giving him or her "direction on how to contact the intelligence committees in accordance with appropriate security practices." Problem with this is that the CIA director might not want Congress to look into the allegations of wrongdoing by the CIA whistleblower.

Laura Bush calls Hillary Clinton "out of bounds" 2 hours, 51 minutes ago
TURIN, Italy (Reuters) - U.S. first lady Laura Bush called New York Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton "out of bounds" on Saturday for a recent attack on her husband, U.S. President George W. Bush, but chalked it up to politics.
Sen. Clinton, pondering a run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, has begun to intensify her criticism of the Bush administration, recently saying it could go down in history as among the worst ever.
"Of course I think it's out of bounds," Mrs. Bush told ABC News from Turin, where she attended opening events at the Winter Olympics. "But I think it's politics, it's certainly politics."

Millions Of Americans Succumbing To Sudden Elder Death Syndrome
McLEAN, VA—Despite remarkable advances in health care and the study of medicine in recent decades, scientists remain baffled by Sudden Elder Death Syndrome, a disorder that cuts long lives short and leaves aggrieved loved ones wondering why.

US Vice President Dick Cheney attends conference where keynote speaker calls Muslism "ragheads"
Well, if Bill Bennett didn't cause a few more riots in the Muslim world, I suppose we can always count on Dick Cheney. Last night Cheney spoke at the annual CPAC convention, a big big big Republican affair here in DC. Now what kind of people was Cheney there giving his good name to? People who rise up in boisterous applause when keynote speakers call Arabs and Muslims "ragheads." For any of our foreign readers, that's an American racial slur.

US prepares military blitz against Iran's nuclear sites
By Philip Sherwell in Washington
(Filed: 12/02/2006)
Strategists at the Pentagon are drawing up plans for devastating bombing raids backed by submarine-launched ballistic missile attacks against Iran's nuclear sites as a "last resort" to block Teheran's efforts to develop an atomic bomb.
Central Command and Strategic Command planners are identifying targets, assessing weapon-loads and working on logistics for an operation, the Sunday Telegraph has learnt.
They are reporting to the office of Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, as America updates plans for action if the diplomatic offensive fails to thwart the Islamic republic's nuclear bomb ambitions. Teheran claims that it is developing only a civilian energy programme.
"This is more than just the standard military contingency assessment," said a senior Pentagon adviser. "This has taken on much greater urgency in recent months."
The prospect of military action could put Washington at odds with Britain which fears that an attack would spark violence across the Middle East, reprisals in the West and may not cripple Teheran's nuclear programme. But the steady flow of disclosures about Iran's secret nuclear operations and the virulent anti-Israeli threats of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has prompted the fresh assessment of military options by Washington. The most likely strategy would involve aerial bombardment by long-distance B2 bombers, each armed with up to 40,000lb of precision weapons, including the latest bunker-busting devices. They would fly from bases in Missouri with mid-air refuelling.

So does Dick Cheney think Muslims are "ragheads"? Stay tuned.
Cat-murderer, GOP Senator, and Republican presidential candidate Bill Frist was asked that very question, since he was standing in the hallway at the conference just after Ann spoke. Frist's reply?
"I wasn't there so I better not comment."
Note to Frist: In polite society it's ALWAYS okay to be AGAINST racial slurs. Then again, you are running from the far-right of the party, so I guess I can understand your reticence.
Posted by: Anonymous Coward at February 11, 2006 10:52 PM
One criticism I have of Muslims is that they have NEVER once demonstrated in a big way about all the bombings and murders but they went apeshit over those cartoons.

Military analysts say price of war with Iran could be severe
RAW STORY
Published: February 11, 2006
A chilling new look at Iran's military capability in response to a U.S. strike will appear in Sunday editions of The Boston Globe, RAW STORY has learned. Headlined "Iran is called capable of launching strikes," the piece provides a sobering analysis of Iran's capabilities.
"Iran is prepared to launch attacks using long-range missiles, secret commando units, and terrorist allies planted around the globe in retaliation for any strike on the country's nuclear facilities, according to new US intelligence assessments and military specialists," the Globe's Brian Bender writes. Excerpts:
#
"US intelligence officials have said that Iran, which fought a war with Iraq from 1980-1988 that cost one million lives, still has the most threatening armed forces in the immediate region. Its combined ground forces are estimated at about 800,000 personnel. The CIA has concluded that Iran is steadily enhancing its ability to project its military power, including by threatening international shipping.

I dont know if i believe we'll get the worst of it... the entire US navy and air force are sitting around doing nothing.
Does Iran really want to go against 3 aircraft carrier battle groups, B1's and B2's, F 117's and everything else.

Gannon Guckert has an entire in the encyclopedia, go figure.
Scandalous
The Real Men pack much ass! and suck too cock for a Constitution.
These findings had some critics questioning Guckert's sexual orientation. Some denounced this speculation as irrelevant, but others said that it revealed hypocrisy on the part of Guckert, his employers, the White House and/or the Republican Party. Critics noted, for instance, that Guckert made statements in articles that could be perceived as anti-gay or homophobic. During the 2004 election, he wrote that John Kerry "might someday be known as ‘the first gay president,’" and that Kerry had supported "the pro-gay agenda." [4]

I'm making a cd for a very cool 13 year old girl who is an aspiring musician. She will be going to the school for the arts in Nashville next year and she plays guitar, and I think some keyboards too. When I asked her what kind of music she liked she said "all kinds". I know she likes some older music by Dylan and the Beatles. She also mentioned that she was getting into blues, and I told her I'd make her a cd with some really old blues music (from my Smithsonian box set). But I'm putting a bunch of stuff on there... All kinds of music, all genres. It's an mp3 cd, so I can put something like 100+ songs on there.
Any suggestions? I'm trying to go for stuff she might not have heard. I'm putting pop, rock, oldies, alternative, americana, blues, just EVERYTHING. So any ideas would be appreciated.

A pissed off Dylan song...
Someone's got it in for me, they're planting stories in the press
Whoever it is I wish they'd cut it out but when they will I can only guess.
They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy,
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me.
I can't help it if I'm lucky.
People see me all the time and they just can't remember how to act
Their minds are filled with big ideas, images and distorted facts.
Even you, yesterday you had to ask me where it was at,
I couldn't believe after all these years, you didn't know me better than that
Sweet lady.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,
Blowing down the backroads headin' south.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
I ran into the fortune-teller, who said beware of lightning that might strike
I haven't known peace and quiet for so long I can't remember what it's like.
There's a lone soldier on the cross, smoke pourin' out of a boxcar door,
You didn't know it, you didn't think it could be done, in the final end he won the wars
After losin' every battle.
I woke up on the roadside, daydreamin' 'bout the way things sometimes are
Visions of your chestnut mare shoot through my head and are makin' me see stars.
You hurt the ones that I love best and cover up the truth with lies.
One day you'll be in the ditch, flies buzzin' around your eyes,
Blood on your saddle.
Idiot wind, blowing through the flowers on your tomb,
Blowing through the curtains in your room.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
It was gravity which pulled us down and destiny which broke us apart
You tamed the lion in my cage but it just wasn't enough to change my heart.
Now everything's a little upside down, as a matter of fact the wheels have stopped,
What's good is bad, what's bad is good, you'll find out when you reach the top
You're on the botto

I noticed at the ceremony, your corrupt ways had finally made you blind
I can't remember your face anymore, your mouth has changed, your eyes don't look into mine.
The priest wore black on the seventh day and sat stone-faced while the building burned.
I waited for you on the running boards, near the cypress trees, while the springtime turned slowly into autumn.
Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull,
From the Grand Coulee Dam to the Capitol.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe. It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read
Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.
Down the highway, down the tracks, down the road to ecstasy,
I followed you beneath the stars, hounded by your memory And all your ragin' glory.
I been double-crossed now for the very last time and now I'm finally free,
I kissed goodbye the howling beast on the borderline which separated you from me.
You'll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above,
And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,
And it makes me feel so sorry.
Idiot wind, blowing through the buttons of our coats,
Blowing through the letters that we wrote.
Idiot wind, blowing through the dust upon our shelves,

Sometimes I feel like I'm fading away,
Looking at me, I got nothin' to say.
Don't make me angry with the things games that you play,
Either light up or leave me alone.
***
Walk in my room, you lie on my bed,
Open your mouth, and shoot someone dead.
All of a sudden, you're inside my head,
Either light up or leave me alone.
***
Suspendin' my breath like a pull on the trees,
She's tryin' to tell me 'bout the birds and the bees,
The skirt that she's wearin' is way past her knees.
Either light up or leave me alone.
Up all night, preachin' your mind,
Come home in the morning with your latest find,
I'm gonna have to lay it to ya, honey, right on the line,
Either light up or leave me alone

I'm ripping another one, because this song is almost over.
But there's never a ruch because Tool always spends just enough time to keep you into the overture.
Posted by: -B at February 12, 2006 12:40 AM
Never spend much time...no rush.
This Nine Inch Nails copmin' up...is a good counter-part to the hard rock of Tool's Lateralus.
The drummers legs are only good for a few songs.

anyway, it sounds like your 87 show would have been alot of fun. That was before vince was in the band. I saw a few shows with hornsby and vince playing keyboards.

I remember reading an interview about that tour. Jerry said the toughest part of it was teacheing Bob how to play Dylan songs.
I think there were creative differeces. I think that tour was right after Garcia had `health' problems/detox?

I just read that when he toured with the Dead he was going through writer's block and other things....the 80's wasn't a good decade for him....his worst album Knocked Out Loaded was made in 1986....

Something to make us all feel happy.
Do anything to take (keep) us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar, make us happy.
You are the one who makes us feel glad
By doin' that you break out in tears.
Please don't be sad to take up the straight life you had
We wouldn't have known you all these years.

He's underrated as a performer....the 1976 Rolling Thunder Revue had some of his best performances....
I love the fact he is still touring...even more than he did in the 1960's....loves being on the road for some reason....and he's much looser and more relaxed...
He said something interesting....when he released Good As I Been To You and World Gone Wrong in the 1990's (both solo acoustic albums of old folk songs), Dylan said the media wrote that he lost it, he's done, and they started to ignore him. He said that was so liberating....
An artist can't become too much of a celebrity, or their creativity suffers. Have to stay outside the business, but inside it as well....

I'm on track three NIN's Fragile.

I like to stay, but every day, everything pushes me far away...

An obscure Dylan song....Three Angels....
Three angels up above the street,
Each one playing a horn,
Dressed in green robes with wings that stick out,
They've been there since Christmas morn.
The wildest cat from Montana passes by in a flash,
Then a lady in a bright orange dress,
One U-Haul trailer, a truck with no wheels,
The Tenth Avenue bus going west.
The dogs and pigeons fly up and they flutter around,
A man with a badge skips by,
Three fellas crawlin' on their way back to work,
Nobody stops to ask why.
The bakery truck stops outside of that fence
Where the angels stand high on their poles,
The driver peeks out, trying to find one face
In this concrete world full of souls.
The angels play on their horns all day,
The whole earth in progression seems to pass by.
But does anyone hear the music they play,
Does anyone even try?

Janeane...treat the blog with disdain? Threads that would last up to 2000 posts because she didn't do new ones? Never!!!!
Disdain? Maybe indifference, and she probably thinks there's tons of fanatical admirers of hers on this thing....there's a few (they know who they are), but mostly it's amazingly intelligent people who, for the most part, don't obsess about Madame Garofalo...

That's because the $17.99 monthly fee that he pays to rent up to three DVDs at a time would amount to an even bigger bargain if the company didn't penalize him for returning his movies so quickly.
Netflix typically sends about 13 movies per month to Villanueva's home in Warren, Mich. -- down from the 18 to 22 DVDs he once received before the company's automated system identified him as a heavy renter and began delaying his shipments to protect its profits.
The same Netflix formula also shoves Villanueva to the back of the line for the most-wanted DVDs, so the service can send those popular flicks to new subscribers and infrequent renters.
The little-known practice, called "throttling" by critics, means Netflix customers who pay the same price for the same service are often treated differently, depending on their rental patterns...."
Ya .. fuck NetFlix ...

Bush's Rx for insurance: Buy your own
"Say good-bye to your group health insurance.
OK, maybe not right away. Your employer may stick with your plan for a few more years. Don't toss out that health-care card just yet.
But if you've been following the business news lately, and if you paid close attention--very close attention--to President Bush's State of the Union address, you may hear a distant knell for the way most Americans get their health insurance..."

That happened to me too. When I first started, I got films all the time. Then it took Netflix 2-3 days to update their system when I returned the films, even though I was using the same mailbox and the return site was the same....
I emailed them about it, and it stopped. It pissed me off, but they have so many foreign and independent films, and in their uncut versions as well....

Scathing report on Katrina faults all the authorities
From Bush on down, it says, everyone failed to learn the lessons of 9/11 about the need for preparedness.
"Hurricane Katrina exposed the U.S. government's failure to learn the lessons of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, as leaders from President Bush on down disregarded ample warnings of the threat to New Orleans and did not execute emergency plans or share information that would have saved lives, according to a blistering report by House investigators.
A draft of the report, to be released publicly Wednesday, includes 90 findings of failures at all levels of government, according to a senior investigator who requested anonymity because the document is not final. Titled "A Failure of Initiative," it is one of three separate reviews by the House, Senate and White House that will in coming weeks dissect the response to the nation's costliest natural disaster.
The 600-plus-page report lays primary fault with the passive reaction and misjudgments of top Bush aides, singling out Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, the Homeland Security Operations Center and the White House Homeland Security Council, according to a 60-page summary of the document obtained by the Washington Post...."

So ... be glad you ain't Richie Sambora! Think he's about to lose his shirt - Rightfully so!
Richie Sambora's former personal assistant has been named as the woman who came between the rocker and his wife, Heather Locklear. Stephanie Heaton, a 39-year-old brunette, worked for Sambora for seven years before she was fired last year. Heaton allegedly emailed the rocker racy photos - one showing her lying on her side, wearing only fishnet stockings and boots, and another one of her wearing "a baby-doll nightie in a provocative pose," according to America's Star magazine. The publication claims Heaton was fired for getting too close to the star and "acting like Richie's wife, and a mother to his and Heather's daughter, Ava." Locklear believed the couple had severed all ties with Heaton, but recently found out that her husband and his former assistant were speaking on the phone every day, according to the Star.

No flesh, only internet tactilespeech for Desire. Limbs & orifices, just conveniences for the relocation of passion. Desire is waiting in the chatroom for you, hands behind back, humming or skipping to a catchy song with no hooks. No one who comes in the chatroom will talk to Desire because they are afraid to confront what they confine inside. There was somebody once, but she was a goddess, like Cybele should be, if we remembered her with new stories & bloodless awe. Desire does not like ICQ because everyday many men write asking do you want to fuck, but the internet is not for fucking,
it is for the way language lays closely beside you
when you are alone, deeply desiring Desire.

“How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips.”

This is the first time that a senior Iranian Jewish leader has openly criticised President Ahmadinejad for denying the Holocaust.
In his strongly-worded letter, Mr Yashayaei asked the president how he could justify what he termed the crimes of Hitler.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41322000/jpg/_41322416_iran_jew_ap203.jpg
Iranian Jews normally do not interfere in political issues and they often support the country's stance on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
In a gesture of loyalty to the Islamic Republic, Mr Yashayaei told the Iranian president that his comments on the Holocaust were against the teachings of the leader of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei.
The letter was apparently sent about a week ago and there is no news whether President Ahmadinejad has responded to it.

The story really isn't new. What's consistently annoying is the way the AP stringers bury the fact that they are all Republicans in paragraph six. News contains most of the facts in the first paragraph.

This story from Juy 2005. Where did all the money go is what we are all asking now. This explains some of it.
Where has all the money gone?
By Ed Harriman
07/07/05 "LRB" -- -- On 12 April 2004, the Coalition Provisional Authority in Erbil in northern Iraq handed over $1.5 billion in cash to a local courier. The money, fresh $100 bills shrink-wrapped on pallets, which filled three Blackhawk helicopters, came from oil sales under the UN’s Oil for Food Programme, and had been entrusted by the UN Security Council to the Americans to be spent on behalf of the Iraqi people. The CPA didn’t properly check out the courier before handing over the cash, and, as a result, according to an audit report by the CPA’s inspector general, ‘there was an increased risk of the loss or theft of the cash.’ Paul Bremer, the American pro-consul in Baghdad until June last year, kept a slush fund of nearly $600 million cash for which there is no paperwork: $200 million of this was kept in a room in one of Saddam’s former palaces, and the US soldier in charge used to keep the key to the room in his backpack, which he left on his desk when he popped out for lunch. Again, this is Iraqi money, not US funds.
The ‘reconstruction’ of Iraq is the largest American-led occupation programme since the Marshall Plan. But there is a difference: the US government funded the Marshall Plan whereas Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Bremer have made sure that the reconstruction of Iraq is paid for by the ‘liberated’ country, by the Iraqis themselves. There was $6 billion left over from the UN Oil for Food Programme, as well as sequestered and frozen assets, and revenue from resumed oil exports (at least $10 billion in the year following the invasion). Under Security Council Resolution 1483, passed on 22 May 2003, all of these funds were transferred into a new account held at the Federal Reserve Bank in New York, called the Development Fund for Iraq (DFI), so that they might be spent by the CPA ‘in a transparent manner . . . for the benefit of the Iraqi people’. Congress, it’s true, voted to spend $18.4 billion of US taxpayers’ money on the redevelopment of Iraq. But by 28 June last year, when Bremer left Baghdad two days early to

But by 28 June last year, when Bremer left Baghdad two days early to avoid possible attack on the way to the airport, his CPA had spent up to $20 billion of Iraqi money, compared to $300 million of US funds.
The ‘financial irregularities’ described in audit reports carried out by agencies of the American government and auditors working for the international community collectively give a detailed insight into the mentality of the American occupation authorities and the way they operated, handing out truckloads of dollars for which neither they nor the recipients felt any need to be accountable. The auditors have so far referred more than a hundred contracts, involving billions of dollars paid to American personnel and corporations, for investigation and possible criminal prosecution. They have also discovered that $8.8 billion that passed through the new Iraqi government ministries in Baghdad while Bremer was in charge is unaccounted for, with little prospect of finding out where it went. A further $3.4 billion earmarked by Congress for Iraqi development has since been siphoned off to finance ‘security’.
That audit reports were commissioned at all owes a lot to Henry Waxman, a Democrat and ranking minority member of the House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform. Waxman voted in favour of the invasion of Iraq. But since the war he’s been demanding that the Bush administration account for its cost. Within six months of the invasion, Waxman’s committee had evidence that the Texas-based Halliburton corporation was being grossly overpaid by the American occupation authorities for the petrol it was importing into Iraq from Kuwait, at a profit of more than $150 million. Waxman and his assistants found that Halliburton was charging $2.64 a gallon for petrol for Iraqi civilians, while American forces were importing the same fuel for $1.57 a gallon.

Bracing for Penalties, Iran Threatens to Withdraw From Nuclear Treaty
By NAZILA FATHI
Published: February 12, 2006
TEHRAN, Feb. 11 — Iran's president warned on Saturday that Iran could withdraw from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty if international pressure increased over its nuclear program.
In a speech to tens of thousand of demonstrators who had gathered to mark the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also staked out a broader path of resistance if penalties are imposed against Iran.
Evoking the possibility of penalties and international ostracism, he insisted that the country would continue its nuclear activities and urged Iranians to brace for tough times.

It will be interesting to see how the heretofore spineless UN handles the Iran Crisis..
So far things look good in the UN..
But I think NATO will be world body that in the end must address Iran..
===========================================================================
On Feb. 6, the IAEA's board of governors adopted a resolution, which urges Iran to re-suspend all activities related to uranium enrichment and requires the agency to report Iran's file to the UN Security Council.
However, the resolution called on the UN Security Council not to take actions on Iran until the IAEA's March meeting.
In response, Iran announced a downgrade of its cooperation with the IAEA, ending voluntary cooperative measures including the implementation of the additional protocol of the NPT, which requires its signatories to admit snap inspections of nuclear sites.
Tehran has also said that it will resume uranium enrichment in mid-February.

Iran could abandon the Non-Proliferation Treaty!
Duh!
A real shocker..
You would think they WANT nuclear weapons..
Who woulda thunk it..
=========================================================================
Iran 'could quit nuclear treaty'
Iran could abandon the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if forced to limit nuclear activities, its hardline president says.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said if the rights of the Iranian people were violated, Iran would "revise its policies".
He made the comments in a speech marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution.
On 4 February, the IAEA decided to report Iran to the UN Security Council over its disputed nuclear programme.
The NPT, which has 187 signatories, was created to prevent new nuclear states emerging, to promote co-operation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to work towards nuclear disarmament.
Non-nuclear signatories agree not to seek to develop or acquire such weapons. In return, they are given an undertaking that they will be helped to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
It is believed to be the first time Iran has threatened to pull out of the treaty.

The Trust Gap
We can't think of a president who has gone to the American people more often than George W. Bush has to ask them to forget about things like democracy, judicial process and the balance of powers — and just trust him. We also can't think of a president who has deserved that trust less.
This has been a central flaw of Mr. Bush's presidency for a long time. But last week produced a flood of evidence that vividly drove home the point.
DOMESTIC SPYING After 9/11, Mr. Bush authorized the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on the conversations and e-mail of Americans and others in the United States without obtaining a warrant or allowing Congress or the courts to review the operation. Lawmakers from both parties have raised considerable doubt about the legality of this program, but Attorney General Alberto Gonzales made it clear last Monday at a Senate hearing that Mr. Bush hasn't the slightest intention of changing it.
According to Mr. Gonzales, the administration can be relied upon to police itself and hold the line between national security and civil liberties on its own. Set aside the rather huge problem that our democracy doesn't work that way. It's not clear that this administration knows where the line is, much less that it is capable of defending it. Mr. Gonzales's own dedication to the truth is in considerable doubt. In sworn testimony at his confirmation hearing last year, he dismissed as "hypothetical" a question about whether he believed the president had the authority to conduct warrantless surveillance. In fact, Mr. Gonzales knew Mr. Bush was doing just that, and had signed off on it as White House counsel.
THE PRISON CAMPS It has been nearly two years since the Abu Ghraib scandal illuminated the violence, illegal detentions and other abuses at United States military prison camps. There have been Congressional hearings, court rulings imposing normal judicial procedures on the camps, and a law requiring prisoners to be treated humanely. Yet nothing has changed. Mr. Bush also made it clear that he intends to follow the new law on the treatment of prisoners when his internal moral compass tells him it is the

Spin-as-usual from the Bush administration is one thing. Striking at the civil liberties, due process and balance of powers that are the heart of American democracy is another.

One thing Iran and the Bush Administration have in common is bigotry. Perhaps a common hatred for gays will the two governments closer together.
Which is strange since the word on the street here in New York is that every time Ms. Rice visits, she seeks the best in female companions.

The Republicans should not give up so easily in the Blue State of New York. It is the blue states that control most of the resources and money. The blues states support the poor people in the red states. The blue states represent a large pool of money yet to be untapped by the Republican Raiders.
Manhatten also provides clubs, parties, birth control, and sex for the Bush twins.

Well, nice photo of Abramoff me like cause for a minute I thought Bush said he didn't know the scumbag.
On a less interesting note before the battle to prevent this upcoming election from being hi"Jack"ed,I thought we better stretch.Wow have I lost respect for my president and his cabinet although I still respect the office, mainly because Marlyn Monroe got to bless it with her ehem,presence.... She was a Candle in the Wind.
But I think it's about time we adressed Bush's behaviors and qualities and all that starting, probably with the most rediculous down to the most evil and back up to the just plain stupid.Lets start with Bush's habit of nicknaming people....

A sheep-like nation is allowing Bush to erode our liberties and well-being
by Bruce Mulkey
published February 11, 2006 6:00 am
“If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.”
— President George W. Bush, Dec. 18, 2000
“As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air — however slight — lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.”
— Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas
What is it going to take for the American people to wake up to the presidential coup d’état that is now under way, a takeover that is occurring in broad daylight by a president who has declared that as commander in chief he has unfettered power to fight an undeclared and never-ending war on terrorism, even if that means ignoring the courts, disregarding laws passed by Congress and circumventing the Bill of Rights in the process?
First the Bush administration rams through the so-called Patriot Act in the hysteria immediately following Sept. 11, 2001, legislation that includes the infamous “sneak and peak” provision. Then they usurp the power of the Senate (though our senators didn’t put up much of a fuss) and use fabricated intelligence to initiate a pre-emptive war against a nonaggressive nation. Next this administration decides that it can detain foreign (and several domestic) adversaries as “illegal enemy combatants” without charge for as long as it desires. After that, it chooses to authorize torture of selected prisoners under the designation of “enhanced interrogation techniques.” Now we discover the Bush administration has used the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on telephone conversations and e-mails of U.S. citizens on American soil without a warrant and that several other government agencies have been illegally tracking our computer activities.

Bush has little cutcy fartcy nicknames for people.Wow,he should be so lucky as to still be ignorant little snot. But,it would seem if his nicknames are personalized, without getting tooobvious,I was wondering what kind of nicknames I would come up with.I had a few ideas...
Posted by: daniel at February 12, 2006 8:51 AM
If the president has the unfettered power that he and his acolytes proclaim, what is the logical next step? Dissolving Congress should it endeavor to forestall his illegal activities? Packing the Supreme Court with his supporters should it declare some of his actions unconstitutional? Proclaiming times so dangerous that he must remain in office even after his term is over?
And if he did so, would we finally revolt against this King George as we did against another during the first American Revolution?
I awaken many mornings asking myself: “Why haven’t I taken to the streets with my fellow citizens demanding the resignation of this pretender to the throne?” “How can I go about my usual daily routine, while my country gradually slides into fascism in the name of national security?” “What am I so fearful of that I stand immobilized while innocent men, women and children are being killed in my name?” “How can I, in good conscience, continue to pay my federal taxes knowing that a large portion of them is going to the immoral war in Iraq and other such military adventures?”

While Mr. Bush has been wasting our time and money in a War which has been proven to be wrong, we are losing our economic and technological standing in the world. The financial minds here in New York are suddenly realizing that we have lost to Communist China. If Mr. Bush and the Republicans divert all attention to fear and national security during the next 3 years, China will bury us in the world market.
My backwoods cousin, War Dog, should add that to his list of reasons why the Bush Administration has failed this great nation.
A true American Patriot would not allow his government to give away this great nation to the Communist Chinese.

I seriously am in a non-debative mood latly myself.I love to share facts but people just get way to involved in settling these flimsy little distractive question right wingers waste all our time with.Obviously anyone who is still supporting Bush is either ignorant of the facts and is willingly avoiding hearing or understanding the overwhelming evidence, or in my oppinion, and its as valid as the next, but in my oppinion they are some of the most mentally defective people on the planet because they either know the facts, and have some personal stake in this country turning fascist and imperialist because they are either insecure about themselves at a fundimental level,or rascist or masochistic, making them so willfully cruel and criminally neglectful of other members of the human race and our home the Earth, that Ive come to the conclusion they are just hillarious. And I will probably forever treat them that way.Like little children, yes they are dangerous, but they are stupid,or at least almost unforgivably ignorant.

This administration having been clouded with opportunity and greed is doing exactly that. When Mr. Nixon "opened trade" with China, he meant to exploit them, not allow them to destroy us.

But I would think they would just laugh..
He could order them to leave..
Same result..
I guess he would need force..
Who would he get to take up arms against Congress..
How about the Army..
Sure he could to Army and tell them to roll tanks against Congress..
The Army being much like Star War Clones would tell order the tanks into Washington..
Now those 20 year old's operating the tanks would attack because they were told to do it..
Congress having no choice would then be dismantled..
Sure ...
I could see this happening..
And the rest of us would just say ...

Bush Administration Details $1 Billion Land Sales
By Matthew Daly
The Associated Press
Friday 10 February 2006
Washington - The Bush administration on Friday detailed its proposal to sell more than 300,000 acres of national forests and other public land to help pay for rural schools in 41 states.
The land sales, ranging from less than an acre to more than 1,000 acres, could total more than $1 billion and would be the largest sale of forest land in decades.
Western lawmakers immediately objected, saying the short-term gains would be offset by the permanent loss of public lands. Congress would have to approve the sales, and has rejected similar proposals in recent years.
Forest Service officials say the sales are needed to raise $800 million over the next five years to pay for schools and roads in rural counties hurt by logging cutbacks on federal land. The Bureau of Land Management has said it also plans to sell federal lands to raise an estimated $250 million over five years.
Dave Alberswerth, a public lands expert with the The Wilderness Society environmental group called the plan a billion-dollar boondoggle to privatize treasured public lands to pay for "tax cuts to the rich."
"This is not going to be politically acceptable to most people," Alberswerth said.

Great countries have changed course and fallen in less time than George Bush has had a desk in Washington. Don't be so arrogant to think that a great event could not change this great Nation in a brief moment of history.
A financial collapse as a result of a multi- billion dollar trade deficit could do it.
Or, another national tragedy handled the same way as this administration handled Katrina could do it. Have you seen any evidence of this administration giving fair analysis and correcting their mistakes? It seems that they spend their time covering their tracks.
If you do indeed support Democracy and are a true patriot, you would be doing everything to preserve the balance of powers and not allow a sitting President to violate the law in the name of security.
I am suprised that you are so ill advised about the workings of democracy.

War Dog, there is an easy way to limit the congress and this is being tried right now. The president is, in essence trying to take away alot of the powers of congress and take them to the executive office. In a way that has the same effect as dismantling the congress without a shot being fired from an army.
You truly have no suspicion nor do you have an imagination!
You're first thought was to bring the army in to dismantle the congress. That is why it is so easy to fool you. And that is why you truly do not understand one thing that is going on right in front of you.

First I want to thank all my constituents and fellow researchers in all studies and fields regaurding my report,I assure that I have done all research independently aside from source information with no grants or loans from any institution but have concluded that all findings do hold within the 99% range of certainty with a 1% possibility of error or slightly differentiating facts regaurding the test, test analysis and all testing and analysis of test subjects herethin.
After 27 years of exhistance and careful observation and cataloging of data I have come to a thoroughly explored, certified, and finalized conclusion.
Jesus of Nazareth did not die on the cross.
Jesus of Nazereth was misdiagnosed, and buried alive in the Tomb Of Joseph of Arimathea.
Jesus was most likly, not a small skinny dude.More likly he would have been a stout man,not fat,but burly and powerful.
Boulder,he moved the boulder when he woke up buried alive.
People are stupid and believe anything. The ressurection is in despute, for good reasons, since he hadnt died yet.
In the land of opium,Jesus pecured some morphine like drugs. They worked well enough for Jesus to let his friend fingerfuck his spear hole while they ate fish.
He told everyone of his boys,he wasnt dead, then,he got Mary Madlin, and got the fuck of of Jeruslem before they crucified his ass again. And he was never heard from again for two thousand years except when zealot retards see his mamma in their tacos, or on stains on walls or windows, or like in the case of our president who apparently has the "spirits and demons just flowing through him like shit through a goose",thinks he hears em directly but we used to call that dementia and derangement, now we just call that the fucking criminal asshole who is the president who wasnt even elected.

War Dog would like you to think that to be worried about losing this great democracy would be "loony". That is the kind of thinking of a Communist. That is the kind of thinking that great dictators have used to control the people. That is how facists gain control. War Dog should read "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire".

Oh, little doggie..
It is right on point..
Congress is not going anywhere..
But it's shape could be changed for years and years if the Dems drop the ball again..
By all measures..
Dems should pick up seat this time around..
It is the cycle of things..
But folks do not like the Loony Talk..
Thus the emergence of Hillary and the Fightin Dems..
An effort to move back to the main stream of Politics..
But the Howling Howard Deans are still out there...
Now won't affect Hillary in O8..
But that crazy talk could turn voters off in 06..
This is gonna be local politics..
You start talking Loony and folks start votin for Republicans...
That is what you should fear..
No a pretend end to Congress...

And no matter what you think..
Bill and Hillary are running the show..
They don't want any part of Howard and Cindy..

Well this tells me alot. Finally an answer that is really not alot of BS.
I just wanted to find out your real thoughts and not the stuff you continually post on the blog.
When there is a radical swing to the right, there is automatically a radical swing to the left. The people in the middle and the people that are non political are the greatest numbers and yet they seem to not have a voice. The radicals are heard above everything else because the news media sees them as more of a story. Remember the talk about the silent majority.
Now these middle of the roaders have to choose sides for an election. What do they do? They choose who the church, or their parents, or influential people in their lives tell them to choose. Do you think these people really follow the issues? They have to be pushed in their faces or effect their pocketbooks before they really look at this.
The repubs took over the religion thing and the family values thing and the middle fell right into the trap. Even though these neorepubs couldn't care less about religion or family values. It was the cause that would give them the majority, slim as it was.
So what is the left going to do about this? This is the question. You veer too far left and you lose the middle and have more of the same gov't.
Need some answers here folks. What are we going to do?
Posted by: toniD at February 12, 2006 10:06 AM
Um, yeah, so what does Hillary have to do with the question I asked you? There's the difference between the looooooney left and you: you can't play it straight for a second! You just vamp and lie and then say "Whatever..." and then complain and whine and distract...
Who here besides you keeps bringing up the Clintons?

Chavez calls Mr. Bush, Mr. Danger.
Colonel 'Dangerous Dan' Marvin, who we reported was asked to murder a military officer at Bethesda Naval Hospital for holding damaging pictures of JFK’s autopsy, won a court victory for revealing hit squads and assassinations are accepted military policy in his controversial book, “The Expendable Elite.”
“The most difficult part of the whole trial was that the Pentagon bribed and coerced some of my men to lie on the stand about what really happened in Vietnam,” said Col. Marvin.
Fortunately he had taped the men before writing the book.
Our government has been and continues to be involved in naked aggression, illegal spying on Americans, illegal torture and detentions and has demonstrated contempt for the Geneva Convention.
* There is no sanctity of human life and dignity, even for the civil rights of Americans.
The only way George and the neocons accomplish anything is by bribery and threat.
Bob Chapman

Chavez' star seems to be rising just as George W. Bush’s is beginning to fizzle, by Mike Whitney
Hugo Chavez’ meteoric rise on the world stage has as much to do with his defiance of Washington as it does with his leadership of a hemispheric revolution. At great personal risk, Chavez has consistently lashed out against his witless-nemesis, George Bush, and the coterie of sycophants who do his bidding.
Last week, it was Bush’s poodle, Tony Blair, who entered the Chavez crosshairs.
Blair has been Bush’s main ally in the illegal occupation of Iraq and the ongoing war of terror. In Parliament this week, Blair admonished Chavez that he should “respect the rules of the international community," ignoring his own gross violations of the UN Charter and the Nuremburg Tribunal.
..
“Bush is the world’s greatest terrorist”…”a madman”… (who) “thinks he owns the world and now is making plans to invade Iran, and plans to invade Venezuela, too… The American people are going to have to tie him down one of these days, because if they don’t he’s capable of destroying half the world.”

the polar opposite of his arch-rival, George Bush. Raised in a dirt-floor shack, Chavez worked his way up through the ranks of the elite paratrooper-corps dreaming of becoming of becoming a baseball player and moving to the United States.
Bush, on the other hand, is a patrician slacker, who drank his way through high school and college, went “missing” during his tour with the Champagne Unit of the Texas National Guard, and ran three companies (Spectrum, Arbusto and Harken) into the ground. He finally, found his niche in politics when he realized he could translate his family name and connections into political capital. Since then, he has faithfully served the corporate interests that catapulted him to the presidency; providing lavish subsidies to industry giants, tax cuts to the wealthy, and deregulation to nearly every area of commerce.
The divisions between Chavez and Bush are more than just personal.
Chavez imagines a world where government is deeply involved in the health and welfare of its citizens and where certain guarantees of security are provided under the rule of law. He has worked tirelessly to actualize a modern Bolivarian Revolution, loosening the centuries-long grip of colonial rule and binding the continent together in a shared vision of peace and cooperation. He’s become the bane of the petro-oligarchs who see his efforts to redistribute some of Venezuela’s vast oil wealth into social programs as a direct challenge to their authority.
(Ironically, Chavez’ attempts to share oil profits are not nearly as extreme as the many programs initiated by FDR under the New Deal. Even into the 1950s the highest tax rate for anyone making over $200,000 was 92%. This “socialistic” redistribution of wealth explains the explosive growth of America’s middle class following the Second World War)
Chavez has provided clinics and schools in every barrio in Caracas; ensuring that even the neediest citizens will enjoy federally funded health care, literacy programs, and a minimal standard of living. His vision of social justice is sharply contrasted to that of Bush who has consistently hacked away at education, public television, Medicaid, student loans, and the crumbling so

And Jesus lived happily ever after. And it was not the end because it never ends.Exhistance keeps going until otherwise.Thats the way it is get used to it.Learn to love it.By the way,why did god make marijuana again? He wanted us to use it right...probably?And why do we outlaw marijuana, not all the natural growing drugs, but that one in particular, especially when alcohol is sold over the counter with no limits on quantity one can legally purchase at one time.I dont think its cause the bible didnt mention weed, because I think it does.Something about all plants,I know you right wingers read it and try to forget it but its in there so you might as well let it go.Oh yeah,by making marijuana illegal, people are saying they think god made a mistake.Wow,Ive never been that confident. But those people think god made an error, and was wrong by leaving this (compared to hard liqure and how humans consume it)this reletivly harmless goodtime seasoning growing wild upon his perfect creation.Perfect except that huge fucking mistake right wingers accuse god of making when he created marijuana......Ok I see.
And even then if the dead rise from the grave, like I alwayse said, grab a baseball bat and a couple of lawnmowers and lets fill some landfilles. We can grind em up and burn the armies of the dead in filtered powerplants.Homodiesel, the manmade environmentally friendly fuel of the future. You could do it now, save lots of oil.Take all the people that are dying, and you dont want to wats all that time burying them, bring them on over to Daniels Utility company where we will burn your dead for no charge, and you will giving back in a way that really counts.Homodiesel.

and the crumbling social safety-net that provides vital resources for the destitute. In Bush-world, the solitary function of government is to enhance the wealth of America’s “privileged few."
While Chavez is working to create a nationally-owned web of oil and gas pipelines that will knit the continent together, Bush is pursuing a global resource war that has destroyed much of Iraq and killed tens of thousands of innocent people. The Chavez approach requires partnership and cooperation, whereas the Bush strategy is merely a continuation of smash-and-grab imperialism.
