From FactCheck.org ... Since Bush took office, the middle-income group has declined by 1.2 percentage points , and now constitutes less than 45% of all households.

At the same time, households with less than $25,000 in income have grown by 1.5 percentage points, and now make up 29% of all households. So a large number of households have slipped out of the middle group and into the lower-income range over the past three years.

And .....

Falling Into Poverty

Another indication that the middle class continued to shrink in 2003 is the increase in the number and percentage of persons living in poverty. According to the Census Bureau, the number of people living below the official poverty line grew by 1.3 million in 2003, to 35.9 million. That's nearly 4.3 million more poor persons than when Bush took office , an increase of nearly 14%.

Furthermore, that process did not stop in 2003 despite the resumption of job growth in September and 4.4% growth in the economy as measured by Gross Domestic Product. The middle-income group lost 0.4 percentage points in 2003.

The upper-income group -- those with income over $75,000 a year -- has also suffered since Bush took office, declining by 0.4 percentage points over three years. However, upper-income households bounced back a bit last year, by two-tenths of a percentage point, and now are back at just over 26% of all households.

So by this measure, the "middle class" continued to shrink in 2003 , and while some "middle class" households moved to the upper-income group, a larger proportion moved down.

Oh, those compassionate conservatives .... poor Mrs. Boitalito I say

----

"Crooks and Liars has video up of compassionate conservative caring hubby Samuel Alito leaving yesterday's hearing. And leaving Mrs. Kodak Moment to fend for herself in the crowd.

Never mind that Republican Lindsey Graham made her cry. Never mind this has clearly been stressful on her and the rest of the family. Never mind that she's left back there to take care of the kids, the in-laws and the sister while Sammy gladhands his way through the crowd.

She got that sympathetic headline for him to start the day yesterday, so she can just fend for herself. Classy."

I want to take a second to talk a little bit more the rock bands who support me.

Look.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is much like our public buildings in DC. They are really owned by the people. So when you hear it's the president's house so to speak, much like I heard Jesse Ventura say once...

You should understand this is the property of the people.

A museum is very much like a public building.

So when my "friends" get inducted, you should understand one of the biggest reasons...

...since obviously I do carry a vote...

Is activism.

So much like in the business world, where a lobbyist is somebody who pays attention...

Or in the entertainment business, where a salesman in marketing stays involved...

I'm doing the very same thing.

If you don't like it.

There's an expression.

Write somebody.

Try to spell right, but it's not completely necessary in all circumstances.

Bathroom Stall Graffitti being maybe one instance...

War Dog,

I repeat: I do not know when a revolt would occur nor do I know what form it would take.

I only know that history teaches us that when the disparity between the rich and the poor is great and enough time passes, the shit hits the fan.

Perhaps the revolt will be an Information Technology hack? Perhaps you will not be able to access your money for several weeks?

I don't know. I only know that it is a much more prudent idea to raise the row boats up atop the same tide that raises the yachts.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive stroke in the back of an ambulance while on an hourlong trip to a Jerusalem hospital, raising a host of questions about his treatment. Why wasn't he flown to the hospital or at least driven to one closer to his home? Did doctors take an unnecessary risk by treating him with blood thinners after he had a mild stroke two weeks ago? Did they wait too long to schedule a heart procedure designed to prevent another stroke?

And perhaps most important: Could political pressures have colored his treatment?

First of all, the star power she has assembled is extraordinary. I LOVE IT! Fantastic writing. Case in point the original reporting "Murtha Smear Campaign". Murtha. Scheer. Shearer. On and On....Players, movers and shakers.

Secondly, the format is the best I have seen. Kos, Escaton have a thing to learn from it. It just like a newspaper WITH A GIGANTIC FRONT PAGE. I like that. Very digestable. Easily navigated.

Third, I LOVE ARGUING WITH REAL CONSERVATIVES! Its the best you arent ALL DEMOCRAT or CENSORED like Democratic Underground.. Its okay to call a neocon a dickhead... Its part of arguing...

Bush could seize absolute control of U.S. government

President George W. Bush has signed executive orders giving him sole authority to impose martial law, suspend habeas corpus and ignore the Posse Comitatus Act that prohibits deployment of U.S. troops on American streets. This would give him absolute dictatorial power over the government with no checks and balances.

Posted by: -B at January 13, 2006 7:33 PM

Sam I need to go into the liberal confessional.

My name is Will, I post on Daily Kos as Will The Organizer. I love the Majority Report and listen almost everyday.

A while back I called up the show as Dan the College Republican to play name that torture. All I can say is I go to a commuter college and I was pretty bored. Dan IS actually a college republican and is a friend of mine, I borrowed his persona and told him about it. He thought it was funny.

I tried to make the show interesting, and did not call as a prank caller trying to sabatoge the show.

I want to come clean so I can call back the show as myself. I have written a couple highly recommended diaries at Daily Kos in the past couple days on the subject of how filibustering Alito is a win for the democrats. I know if theres a groundswell of grassroots support we can have our senators filibuster until after the hearings on the FISA scandal. I have set up a web site FilibusterScalito.com to help with this.

You can read them here and here

Please forgive me Sam, I am a loyal listener and a young person who wants to work hard for the Democratic Party.

Pentagon grilled over database on war critics

Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Thursday asked for answers on an obscure Pentagon agency that included reports on student anti-war protests and other peaceful civilian demonstrations in a database meant to detect terrorist activities.

(AP) — Two Illinois congressmen said Wednesday they would return campaign contributions tied to Jack Abramoff, joining a growing list of lawmakers dumping their political donations from the fallen lobbyist.

Abramoff, 46, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Miami to conspiracy and wire fraud charges in relation to the 2000 purchase of a gambling boat fleet. It came a day after he pleaded guilty to fraud, corruption and tax evasion in Washington as part of an agreement with prosecutors requiring him to cooperate in a broad corruption investigation into members of Congress.

Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., said during an appearance in Chicago that his staff has found at least $8,000 in donations from Indian tribes affiliated with Abramoff. He said he would give the money to Indian charities.

Gag Reflex

But just how far does the "Commander's" torture authority reach? To the crushing of an innocent child's testicles. So says John Yoo, the former deputy assistant attorney general who helped craft the official White House "torture memos" that justified any torture short of permanent maiming or death -- and even countenanced the latter if it was "unintentional." Yoo also helped devise the regime's crank philosophy of the "unitary executive" -- that is, dictatorship for a "war president." In response to a question at a public debate last month, Yoo declared that Bush could override any law or treaty and order his goons to crush the testicles of a prisoner's child in the name of "national security," commentator Andrew Sullivan reports.

Vampire Running For Minnesota Governor...Pledges To Personally Execute Murderers And Child Molesters...

MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 13) - Minnesota voters, who eight years ago elected a former professional wrestler as their governor, may find a self-proclaimed vampire on the ballot for the office this year.

"Politics is a cut-throat business," said Jonathon "The Impaler" Sharkey, who said he plans to announce his bid for governor Friday on the ticket of the Vampyres, Witches and Pagans Party.

Like Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who was elected governor as an independent in 1998, the 41-year-old Sharkey once was a wrestler. He went by the nickname "The Unholiest of Kings: Tarantula" on obscure professional circuits.

"I'm a satanist who doesn't hate Jesus," Sharkey told Reuters. "I just hate God the Father."

However, he claims to respect all religions and if elected, will post "everything from the Ten Commandments to the Wicca Reed" in government buildings

REPUBLICAN MAJORITY FOR CHOICE (RMC) OPPOSES JUDGE ALITO FOR SUPREME COURT

Excerpts from "The Nation" -

RMC is the largest pro-choice group in the Republican Party and has more influence than most moderate groups with GOP senators.

In addition to Specter, three other Republican senators -- Rhode Island's Lincoln Chafee, and Mainers Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe -- serve on the Republican Majority for Choice advisory council.

The question now is whether those senators were paying as close attention to Alito's testimony as the group they advise. Needless to say, the same goes for other senators, Republicans and Democrats, who claim to support a right to choose.

After all, as the Republican Majority for Choice noted, "The reality is that Judge Alito would not have to vote to overrule Roe in order to be the architect of the denial of a woman's right to choose. He could give lip service to respecting Roe while upholding the numerous legislative efforts to chip away at reproductive freedom. The cumulative result is that Roe v. Wade and its progeny are rendered meaningless."

Seder...

Bush Authorized Domestic Spying before 9/11

Which proves two things.
1. Bush wasn;t using "terror" as a reason to spyon Americans, and ...

2. Such intensive spying did not prevent 9-11 anyway.

The Problem with Presidential Signing Statements Their Use and Misuse by the Bush Administration

Rather than veto laws passed by Congress, Bush is using his signing statements to effectively nullify them as they relate to the executive branch. These statements, for him, function as directives to executive branch departments and agencies as to how they are to implement the relevant law.

Berlin admits giving US bombing targets in Iraq

German MPs have called for a full inquiry into the allegations amid speculation about the future of Franz Walter Steinmeyer, Mrs Merkel's Social Democrat Foreign Minister, who was a senior government official during the Iraq war.

The reports of German-US intelligence co-operation, aired on Germany's ARD television channel, were confirmed by Berlin government sources and appeared to run directly counter to official German government policy on the war.

Citing a US government official, the TV channel said German intelligence officers in Baghdad had supplied information about a restaurant in the Mansur district of the city which the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, was said to have frequented on the eve of the US-led invasion. The US military bombed the building killing 12 people.

Projection: The democrats are trying to destroy our courts with 'activist' judges!

9/11 : Well, things are different since 9/11

Christianity: Baby jesus thinks you're wrong too. It says so in the bible.

Systemic: Both the democrats and the republicans are at fault! It's a culture of corruption!

Lie: Alito is an upstanding believer in the law and the constitution and won't muddy the waters with his own beliefs.

Testosterone: GW Bush Rules! DemoCRAPS suck! Fuck the towelheads.

Entertainment or otherwise.

By the way...

My impression is the Senator's impression...of Sam Seder's line of questioning...

Was the issue of abortion isn't going to be filibustered.

That's what he meant, just before he hung up.

When he said the "close" issues would be decided more to the right of O'Connor.

He's the second most powerful Democrat Senator on The Hill.

So it's not looking good.

The Wiretappers That Couldn't Shoot Straight

If fictional terrorists concocted by Hollywood can figure out that the National Security Agency is listening to their every call, guess what? Real-life terrorists know this, too. So when a hyperventilating President Bush rants that the exposure of his warrant-free wiretapping in a newspaper is shameful and puts "our citizens at risk" by revealing our espionage playbook, you have to wonder what he is really trying to hide. Our enemies, as America has learned the hard way, are not morons. Even if Al Qaeda hasn't seen "Sleeper Cell" because it refuses to spring for pay cable, it has surely assumed from the get-go that the White House would ignore legal restraints on eavesdropping, just as it has on detainee jurisprudence and torture.

Shi'ite bloc short of Iraq parliament majority: source

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Islamist Shi'ite Alliance bloc will fall short of retaining its parliamentary majority after last month's election, according to an almost final tally of seats in the chamber obtained by Reuters on Friday.

With six of 275 seats yet to be allocated, the Alliance and their present Kurdish coalition partners were also one seat shy of the two-thirds majority needed to change the constitution, figures provided by source at the Electoral Commission showed.

Final results are expected next week following a review of procedures by international observers responding to complaints of fraud by minority Sunni Arab and secular parties. No major change in the results from the December 15 vote is expected.

NSA's Web Site Rendered Inaccessible

WASHINGTON -- The Web site for the National Security Agency, which has been under scrutiny over domestic wiretaps it conducted without warrants, was inaccessible for more than seven hours Friday.

A spokesman, Don Weber, declined to say whether the site suffered an attack by hackers or a technical glitch. Speaking shortly after the site went back online, he said only that employees had worked to restore access.

"This condition would indicate to me that either the site is being overwhelmed with legitimate users or a (denial of service) attack," said Shawn White, the director for Keynote's external operations.

The NSA, known for eavesdropping and code breaking, also helps protect computer systems deemed vital to the nation's security, such as those involved in intelligence, cryptography and weapons.

Internet records indicate the NSA's Web site is contracted to Lingual Information System Technologies Inc. of Columbia, Md. An operator there said no executives were available to comment on the outage because they had left for the holiday weekend.

US missiles blamed for 18 deaths on Pakistan border

13 Jan 2006 13:05:50 GMT

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (Reuters) - A Pakistani security official and residents of a border region said U.S. aircraft from Afghanistan killed 18 people, including women and children, when they fired missiles at pro-Taliban Islamists early on Friday. Pakistani military spokesman Major-General Shaukat Sultan said up to 14 people had been killed in several blasts in the Bajaur tribal region but said he did not know the cause.

A U.S. military spokesman in Afghanistan, Lieutenant-Colonel Jerry O'Hara, said there were no reports of U.S. forces operating in the area.

WOW!!!

That email-your-senator thingy is wicked fun!!!!

Here's my altered version of their message:

==================================================

Dear Senator Dole:
As your constituent, I'm writing to ask you to SUPPORT any attempt to filibuster President Bush's nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Samuel Alito.

When the President fulfills his Constitutional duty to nominate a Supreme Court justice, it's the Senate's Constitutional duty to "advise and consent" on that nomination. The Senate must "block and obstruct" any nominee whose judicial philosophy is as dangerous for this nation as Judge Alito's.

At age 39, Judge Alito was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, and in his testimony at that hearing, he lied to Senators about his intention to recuse himself from cases in which he had a financial interest.

Together with his service as the top federal prosecutor in New Jersey and as a Justice Department lawyer arguing cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Alito is one of the most radical neo-conservative, big government, pro-corporate monstrosities ever created by our judicial system.

Please, REJECT President Bush's nominee to U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Samuel Alito. This is one of the most important jobs that you have as a Senator -- and as your constituent, I'm going to be watching this VERY closely. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Peter Mooney
