SEYMOUR, u're boring!

Posted by: air-ono at November 29, 2005 08:58 PM

I agree. Mr. Hersh would have MUCH more credibility if he spoke like you.

Posted by: I am an idiot at November 29, 2005 9:02 PM

This can't be true. Ohio only resumed executions a few years ago. You have to have your facts wrong on this.

Posted by: Reefer Jello at November 29, 2005 08:56 PM

---------------

It's a 1000 executions -- total in all states -- since the death penalty was reinstated on Jan. 17, 1977.

Posted by: Ken Warner at November 29, 2005 9:02 PM

Posted by: Bob at November 29, 2005 08:51 PM

I think it's just a bit worse than that.

It's about planning.

Bush either planned poorly for this operation or he planned for just what we got, and it only looks like "not planning" because the plan they set out to execute was not the plan they sold to America but an entirely different plan with an entierly different objective.

Speculations as to what those other objectives might have been are usually oriented on the Neo-Con "Mid-East" strategy that has our nation thrust into a land / oil grab by a new "Pearl Harbour."

You guys know that Neo-Con plan I'm refering to, I'm sure. The one that came out in the '90's written by Richard Perle, I think.

Posted by: Reefer Jello at November 29, 2005 08:56 PM

It's possible. I got it from Yahoo! news. :)

Posted by: trubblemaker at November 29, 2005 09:00 PM

You're right, sorry, just checked it out further. It's Virginia, and it's the 1,000th execution IN THE UNITED STATES. I think Ohio was the 999th. My bad.

Posted by: trubblemaker at November 29, 2005 9:02 PM

What are some of the stats Harold?

Posted by: Bob at November 29, 2005 09:00 PM

In Fact...

SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT

Bob Moser writes: Once a wartime President has lost support in gung-ho North Carolina--home to major Army, Air Force and Marine bases and longtime bastion of pro-military sentiment--it's safe to assume that he's lost it everywhere. A recent poll conducted by Elon University provided grim news, then, for George W. Bush and his Iraq adventure: 57 percent of Tar Heels said they disapproved of the President's handling of the war. But that wasn't the worst finding for the floundering Bush Administration. The poll showed that active military personnel, reservists and veterans in North Carolina had turned just as strongly against the war as nonmilitary citizens. More than 56 percent disapproved of his war leadership. In perhaps the most startling result of all, when they were asked whether the war with Iraq was "worth fighting" in the first place, a mere 19 percent of these soldiers, ex-soldiers and soldiers-in-waiting said yes.

Posted by: Harold [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 29, 2005 9:04 PM

Sam -- nice job with Hersh. But I wouldn't mind a whole hour with him someday. Maybe taking calls if he wanted to.

For all your information I tried enlisting on three seperate occasions including pursuing a number of waivers for service after I was turned down for medical reasons. It's funny all you guys who have never even considered serving always accuse conservatives of trying to avoid service and yet when you ask any guy thats been over there he says nine out of ten guys over there ended up voting for Bush and want to stay and win. Or perhaps looki at the re-up rates for guys serving in Iraq and see how many of them are abandoning their posts. Those men and women overwhelmingly support the mission and continue to serve with distinction and honor despite your accusations of them being sadists and murderers.

"The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. I am surprised and embarrassed to be a part of the first American generation to leave the country in far worse shape than it was when we first came into it. Our highway system is crumbling, our police are dishonest, our children are poor, our vaunted Social Security, once the envy of the world, has been looted and neglected and destroyed by the same gang of ignorant, greed-crazed bastards who brought us Vietnam, Afghanistan, the disastrous Gaza Strip, and ignominious defeat all over the world."

History will forever record Elizabeth Brooks' bat mitzvah as "Mitzvahpalooza."
For his daughter's coming-of-age celebration last weekend, multimillionaire Long Island defense contractor David H. Brooks booked two floors of the Rainbow Room, hauled in concert-ready equipment, built a stage, installed special carpeting, outfitted the space with Jumbotrons and arranged command performances by everyone from 50 Cent to Tom Petty to Aerosmith.

I hear it was garish display of rock 'n' roll idol worship for which the famously irascible CEO of DHB Industries, a Westbury-based manufacturer of bulletproof vests, sent his company jet to retrieve Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from their Saturday gig in Pittsburgh.

I'm also told that in honor of Aerosmith (and the $2 million fee I hear he paid for their appearance), the 50-year-old Brooks changed from a black-leather, metal-studded suit - accessorized with biker-chic necklace chains and diamonds from Chrome Hearts jewelers - into a hot-pink suede version of the same lovely outfit.

The party cost an estimated $10 million, including the price of corporate jets to ferry the performers to and from. Also on the bill were The Eagles' Don Henley and Joe Walsh performing with Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks; DJ AM (Nicole Richie's fiance); rap diva Ciara and, sadly perhaps (except that he received an estimated $250,000 for the job), Kenny G blowing on his soprano sax as more than 300 guests strolled and chatted into their pre-dinner cocktails.

"Hey, that guy looks like Kenny G," a disbelieving grownup was overheard remarking - though the 150 kids in attendance seemed more impressed by their $1,000 gift bags, complete with digital cameras and the latest video iPod.

For his estimated $500,000, I hear that 50 Cent performed only four or five songs - and badly - though he did manage to work in the lyric, "Go shorty, it's your bat miztvah, we gonna party like it's your bat mitzvah."

At one point, I'm told, one of Fitty's beefy bodyguards blocked shots of his boss performing and batted down the kids' cameras, shouting "No pictures! No pictures!" - even preventing Brooks' personal videographers and photographers from capturing

DS: What is your position on No Child Left Behind?
MDH: I think NCLB borders on criminal.

DS: Are you aware of the "Sneak-n-Peek" provision in NCLB, and how do you feel about it? (Info on the SNP can be found at leavemychildalone.org)
MDH: Not only do I know about it, I have been participating on panel discussions in the community to talk about recruiting abuses. Children have the right to make up their minds on their own and recruiters that target them and their families do the military a serious injustice. I have a hard time figuring out why more parents aren't speaking out about this issue.

I believe Gore was on a board that approved federal funding into the civilian applications of the original Internet protoype, which was a military network, so he was part of the beginnins of the Internet. Connies, of course, blew this up into "AL GORE CLAIMS HE INVENTED THE INTERNET!" in a transparent attempt to make the man look crazy, and then parrot it into their list of talking points for the next fifteen years. Expect to hear it from Ann Coulter next, it's her turn, I believe.

Gore fought for funding for a fledgling defense department project Arpanet that evolved into the internet;

[1999 Mar 9]  Al Gore gives an interview on CNN's Late Edition program where he says, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Over the years the general consensus is that Al Gore said he "invented" the Internet. This is not correct. 'Founding Father of the Internet' Vinton Cerf has personally thanked Al Gore for his help in passing legislation in the late 80s that allowed the Arpanet (Internet) to grow by releasing military control and allowing commerical access. Sure, Al Gore could have worded his statement a little more carefully but he has never taken credit for what Vinton Cerf and the other Founding Fathers of the Interrnet accomplished.

Yeah, well, Al Gore had something to do with that, and made the mistake of talking about it in an interview. Now, maybe he misspoke slightly, but let me ask you something:

If you were at dinner, and you accidentally asked for 'Nutterbutt squash,' and your friend next to you went 'Nutterbutt squash? Nutterbutt SQUASH!??..."

...then proceeded to repeat it at regular intervals through the course of the evening, i.e "Hey, Ken, how about some of that Nutterbutt squash?"

...THEN pointed at you and said "Nutterbutt squash" every time you saw him for the next five years...

...would that man become, I don't know...tiresome?

Iranian legislator Akbar Alami has questioned Ahmadinejad's apparent claims, saying that even Islam's holiest figures have never made such claims.

Alami told ILNA news agency that it is hard to imagine that someone who is delivering a speech can at the same time focus his attention on the eyelashes of all the people sitting at a distance from him and categorically tell a leading Qom cleric that they did not blink.

Alami said he hopes the film of Ahmadinejad’s comments has not been distributed by people close to the president to make criticizing him "taboo among ordinary people."

However, FardaNews.com, a conservative website, reported that the meeting between Ahmadinejad and Ayatollah Javadi Amoli was private. [Editor's note: FardaNews.com has no relation to RFE/RL's Radio Farda.] The website accused unspecified Ahmadinejad opponents of distributing the CD of the meeting to insult him.

Hossein Bastani, an Iranian journalist based in France, told RFE/RL that Ahmadinejad's comments can be interpreted in two ways.

"One analysis is that this government believes that it came to power with the votes of the so-called lowest class of the Iranian society and these are classes that believe more in such supernatural tales," Bastani said. "Therefore, this government tries, by propagating such rumors, to gain a dogmatic, charismatic, and holy status among those whom they think support them. The second view is that despite the fact that they are trying to fool people, maybe they also believe in these things that are being repeatedly published about them and said by them. This is more dangerous.”

The problem comes when it's "standardized" and applied generically. Certain kids are going to do better just because of their background.

They are proud that their party has reduced the American working stiff to a groveling beggar who will have to work for lower wages and longer hours (with two or three jobs). It's a dog eat dog world, and they are the top dogs. The liberal giveaway society is a thing of the past, and we can now put our efforts into eternal war with religious fanatics, here and abroad. This is a perfect world for them -- lower paying jobs and terrorism. Something to be proud about. Oh, yes, and they have lower taxes for the upper income. Their cynical motto is: Life's a Bitch, and Then You Die.

Christopher Noteboom, of Tempe, Ariz., ran onto the field holding a plastic bag, leaving a cloud of fine powder behind.

As he reached the 30-yard line, he dropped to his knees, made the sign of the cross and laid down on his stomach. Security personnel reached him moments later and he offered no resistance as he was escorted from the field.

The 33-year-old Noteboom, a native of Doylestown, said his mother died of emphysema in January 2005, shortly before the Eagles' Super Bowl appearance.

"She never cared for any other team except the Eagles," Noteboom told WPVI-TV after he was released from custody Monday. "I know that the last handful of ashes I had are laying on the field, and will never be taken away. She'll always be part of Lincoln Financial Field and of the Eagles."

Dave's interview on TRADE:

District Sixer: Do you support NAFTA, CAFTA, and/or the WTO? Why or why not?
David Harris: I am a believer in free trade, but not at the expense of American jobs being lost overseas or across our borders so corporations can cut manufacturing costs and layoff hardworking Americans. I think we really need to re-look at these programs, especially in those countries that enjoy "Generalized System of Preferences" yet continue to violate labor laws and worker's rights to have collective bargaining and freedom of association. I think our CEO's are taking the easy way out instead of coming up with workable solutions to keep manufacturing cost down here and worker productivity up here in America. It can be done. I think the $10 million a year CEO can take a $3 million dollar a year pay cut and still live like a rock star, while still keeping business right here at home.

Because we've been trying since 'bloggie #1' !

I've recommended this blog before to friends; they don't last five minutes.

They don't like babysitting trolls.

Josh, unlike you, knows when somebody is joking. It's called a "sense of humor". Look into it.

I find nothing funny about bloggers from 'who-knows-where' being allowed to use this blog to support the further kidnapping of American citizens.

Two PC's, two connections (1 Broadband, one dial-up).. two IP's.

Posted by: Liberal-at-large at November 29, 2005 09:39 PM

Yes that's the obvious way. I wonder how many people would go to a blog with the intention of obscuring his identity with multiple IP's. Seems like that demonstrates a nefarious intention to distrupt. And follow the money. I guess there are people twisted enough to want to spend that much energy on it. But it seems that multiple IP's would be the first indication of a professional troll.
