Can't wait to see how Seder tap dances around this guy:

Duck's Iraq solution: "Send More Troops! (Preferably German!)"

We cannot “cut and run”. We cannot set a timetable for withdraw. But all we have now is “we will leave when we are done.” We need more than that. We need a Roadmap to Victory for Iraq. We need a plan with steps showing how we will progress.

Clinton: Immediate Iraq Exit a Mistake

By JIM FITZGERALD, Associated Press Writer Mon Nov 21, 4:44 PM ET

RYE BROOK, N.Y. - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that an immediate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq would be "a big mistake."

"It will matter to us if Iraq totally collapses into civil war, if it becomes a failed state the way Afghanistan was, where terrorists are free to basically set up camp and launch attacks against us," she said.

Hannity falsely referred to Republican resolution as the "Murtha amendment"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200511210009

Fox News host Sean Hannity referred to a congressional resolution calling for the immediate termination of U.S. troop deployment in Iraq as the "Murtha amendment." But the resolution in question was not sponsored by Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA). While Murtha had introduced a detailed measure that called for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq "at the earliest practicable date," his resolution bore little resemblance to the Republican-sponsored measure Hannity was discussing. This one-sentence resolution -- described in news reports as a "political trap" and "aimed at embarrassing war critics" -- simply ordered "that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately."

In a column in the November 28 edition of U.S. News & World Report, former presidential adviser David Gergen falsely claimed that Ronald Reagan "left office with the highest approval ratings of any retiring, two-term president." In fact, President Clinton had approval ratings equal to or higher than Reagan's upon leaving office.

Neither Compassionate, Nor Conservative

Bush's "Compassionate Converatism", a Report Card from the Front

By MARSHALL AUERBACK

Describing the President's panicked political response to his falling poll numbers as "compassionate conservatism", (as New York Times columnist David Brooks did last Sunday, "A Bushian Laboratory", September 18, 2005), borders on the ludicrous. Mr Bush has now overseen the fastest increase in domestic spending of any president in recent history. Furthermore, he has never resolved the inherent contradiction between his so-called "compassionate" spending policy and his small-government tax policy (which was ostensibly designed to "kill the beast" of Big Government once and for all, according to the President's conservative apologists).

Hollinger directors to depart
Thompson, Perle, Kissinger among 6 who won't return

Bloomberg News
Published November 22, 2005

Hollinger International Inc. said Monday that six directors, including former Illinois Gov. James Thompson, Henry Kissinger and Richard Perle, are leaving the board.

The announcement came one week after former Chairman and Chief Executive Conrad Black was charged with helping to steal $51.8 million from the Chicago-based company.

Thompson, Kissinger, Perle, Richard Burt, Daniel Colson and Shmuel Meitar won't stand for re-election at the company's annual meeting Jan. 24, Hollinger International said.

The board will shrink to 11 members.

"These directors have made important contributions to the company's significant accomplishments during the past two years," said Chairman and CEO Gordon A. Paris. "On behalf of the company, I thank them for their service."

Thompson and Perle didn't return phone calls seeking comment.

The company will announce a slate of director nominees next month. Black left Hollinger International after building a media empire that included the Chicago Sun-Times, Britain's Daily Telegraph and the Jerusalem Post.

He attracted luminaries including Kissinger, a former U.S. secretary of state, and Perle, a former assistant defense secretary, to lend prestige to the company's board.

The company's nominating and governance committee, chaired by Kissinger, has been working with the search firm Spencer Stuart to identify candidates to replace the directors who are leaving, the company said.

What a tangled web we weave, when we pratice to decieve.

Corporatist Dems Won't Defeat Corporatist Repubs...and It Won't Change a Thing If They Did

From: What Do Democrats Stand For?

By RALPH NADER

This is Mr. Dean strapped to the mast by his superiors in the Congress, where fear of the Republicans supercedes the Democrats' loathing of them. When their most senior member on the House military appropriations committee, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), a double-decorated Vietnam veteran and their most untouchable member by the Republican smear machine, came out last week for "immediate withdrawal" (meaning over six months) of U.S. soldiers from Iraq, the Democratic Party caucus did not come out in support of his position. This is the case even though most Democrats privately agree with Rep. Murtha, as does a growing majority of the American people.

The Republicans continue to taunt the cowardly Democrats by making them vote on a resolution for immediate termination without explaining what it means. The Democrats watch the Republican implode, but by not advancing their own agenda for America they find themselves also low in the polls.

Brother is finally transferring out of the PSYCHO BULLSHIT PRIVATE CORPORATE JAIL To a 'harder' but better state run jail. In the private jail the guards want a new contract, but the company is like.. fuck off. So the guards TORTURE THE INMATES TO GET THEM TO RIOT. So the place goes on lockdown, because on lockdown they get 'hazard' pay. When the jail goes on lockdown, the state gets charged more and the guards earn more. It is like HELL ON EARTH and all about money.

The Avian Flu of the Antiwar Movement

Democratic Hawks

By JOSHUA FRANK

They won't pull out troops from Iraq and they won't vote for any strategy that calls for immediate removal of United States occupation forces. Of course it took a Republican to put forth an "out-now" resolution, which was supposedly intended to split the Democrats. But the vote in the House late Friday didn't slice a wedge in the Democrat Party -- on the contrary, it united them behind a bloody and illegal occupation in Iraq. Of course this could well have been the Republican strategy all along.

Only three Democrats voted in support of the Republicans' Iraq withdraw proposal: Representatives Wexler, Serrano and McKinney. And their point was well made. They want the troops home now and they don't care who wrote up the legislation or the reasons why they did it. It was the right move to make. If US troops were pulled out tomorrow, Iraq would be a safer place for all of us.

A handful of House Democrats did take the podium to express their seething disgust over the Republicans' political feat. Talk is cheap, however. Votes are what count. If there ever was a subject that should gash the thin-skinned Democratic Party, it'd be the Iraq war. But as the House vote verified, the Democrats don't want US troops home now, let alone in six months as Rep. John Murtha proposed last Thursday.

Iraq Kurds Shortchanged, They Say, by Massive U.S. Cash Drop
The $1.4 billion came from prewar oil sales. Officials contend that even more was missing.

By Richard C. Paddock and T. Christian Miller, Times Staff Writers

IRBIL, Iraq — The $100 bills were all new. They came wrapped in plastic and loaded on wooden pallets. Altogether, the money weighed 15 tons, enough to fill three U.S. military helicopters. It totaled $1.4 billion.

In a little-known operation during the final days of the U.S.-run Coalition Provisional Authority, American military helicopters flew the shipment of cash to Irbil, Iraqi Kurdistan's largest city.

U.S. troops were waiting on the ground at the airport to unload the money and take it under heavy guard to the headquarters of the province's central bank in the city's core.

The cash payment, which was approved by outgoing U.S. administrator L. Paul Bremer III, was delivered on June 23, 2004, five days before he returned sovereignty to a new Iraqi government in Baghdad and left the country. The money, which came out of prewar oil revenue, was given to top officials with Iraq's two Kurdish provincial governments.

"For us it was so strange," said Rashid Taher, director of finance in Irbil province. "We received it as cash at the airport. Paul Bremer delivered it to us, and we still have the money."

Kurdistan officials say the secret, last-minute shipment highlighted the sometimes-questionable handling of billions of dollars by the United States during the 14 months Bremer ran Iraq.

Central fund

It is all a source of great frustration to Mr Egeland.

"We're over-stretched and under-funded like never before, around the globe really," he said.

"For our people in the field, we have not even been able to say, 'Yes, you can continue working in this situation'."

"We're sending around a hat now, we don't know how much is in the hat when it's coming back - in an emergency situation," Mr Egeland said.

The UN wants a central fund for emergency relief so it doesn't have to go round begging for money after a disaster has struck.

But not all countries support giving the UN money up front. The US says it does not plan to contribute.

New approach 'essential'

Where there is consensus, however, is on the need to invest more in disaster prevention.

Geez! I was listening to this guy, and had to come on line.
a) He's putting his words into Murtha's mouth. Murtha never said that he would support this fiasco if it was "fought to win".

b) His arguments for staying in Iraq are identical to the rationale for staying in Viet Nam. It led to Johnson escalating the war, with an enormous loss of life on both sides.

c) Why would the Iraqi government want us out if they thought this was "winable"?

BLACK BOX VOTING INVITED TO HACK DIEBOLD VOTING MACHINES

Nov 23, 2005: The California Secretary of State has invited Black
Box Voting to hack away at some Diebold voting systems. The testing
is set for Nov. 30, 2005.

Diebold Election Systems has been trying to re-certify its “TSx” touch-
screen machines in California. Diebold has added stronger passwords
and encryption, but even the consultant hired by California to evaluate
the system reported that the voting system remains vulnerable to
alteration of vote results. (More on consultant report and vulnerabilities: http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/1954/14296.html )

This week, officials at the California Secretary of State's office invited
Black Box Voting, a nonprofit, nonpartisan watchdog group for elections,
to try hacking into the Diebold system. A specific testing protocol was
provided by Diebold and the California Secretary of State’s office.

Though the opportunity was welcomed by Black Box Voting, negotiations
remain on the procedures. Black Box Voting contends that the proposed
testing violates California Election Code §19202, which governs the
request for voting machine testing formally submitted to the state of
California by Black Box Voting on June 16, 2005. Also, Black Box Voting
identified areas of bias in the proposed procedures, which would violate
normal scientific protocol and cause voters to lack confidence in the results.

At issue is Diebold’s insistence on being involved in setting up the testing
procedures, and Diebold’s provision of hand-picked machines, using new
voting systems not currently in use in California.

Andrew Duck is a fantasy-land thinker who doesn't take into account who is actually running this war.

Does anyone realistically expect George W. Bush to listen to anyone?

Or to suddenly "run the war properly" if Bush ramps it up w/more soldiers?

Is there any likelihood for that happening? At all?

What Andrew Duck doesn't understand, imo, is that the military can't "win" this war.

The military won the invasion. The military can't act as a substitute to failed political leadership from the Bush administration.

If -- and it's a huge if -- the war was *ever* "winnable" (I say "ever" b/c invading Iraq was a huge geopolitical fuck-up to begin with), it was in getting most things correct politically right from the beginning.

That ship sailed long, long, loooong ago.

Now, the military *might* be able to crush the Sunni insurgency IF -- another huge if -- if it got ruthless to a degree most Americans would (likely) not accept, especially now, post-torture-sanctioning America.

But even IF our military helped crush the Sunni insurgency, we'd only inherit a Shia insurgency once the Sunni's were crushed.

Andrew Duck also sticks his head in the sand ignoring that Bush has fucked over the whole world. So politically, all of Andrew's swell ideas on "we oughta do this and this to win" don't exist any longer in the real world.

Would it a been nice if we had buy-in for troops from all over the world?

Sure.

Maybe BushCo. should a thought of that when they were acting like big-swinging dicks and telling everyone if you didn't go in w/us you could go fuck yourself.

Most of the problems we have at present are due to the political insecurity, immaturity, gullibility and hubris of the Bush Administration.

Nothing the military can do can change that.

Sorry Andrew.

You simply can't unshit the bed.
