There's something that I came across today that really, really disturbs me, and makes me worry we may have another 9/11 type emergency soon.

As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing – that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack – but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections."

This is not on the web, but in print. This is very disturbing. It sounds like Cheney is counting on something like 9/11 happening again, so he can justify nuking Iran. I think the whistle needs to be blown on this. This might have some relationship to the recent spate of bombings too.

It occurs to me that maybe another term or phrase would be better used for the term "Abortion" Abortion sounds so harsh. It's easy to attack something that sounds so final and drastic.

The Republicans do it all the time -- "Right to Life" -- sounds great. We all know that it is not really true.

So what would be another term for Abortion that would take some of the wind out of the attack on womans rights just because it sounded less deadly?

Something not medical term sounding but relating to a womans basic health needs. Something you could say around children.

Like the morning-after pill, Democrats complained the next day about the House vote (took place at midnight, was kept open for forty-five minutes until a majority was....assembled), complaining how the rules were bent after the original tally actually rejected CAFTA by five votes. Why did they then not stage a sit-in or register a vociferous protest? One Democratic senator referred to this ploy, but when the vote came, I counted many Democrats -- Dianne Feinstein, both the Washington Senators, and the Old Reliable, Joe Lieberman himself, all voting for CAFTA.

Any other country would have made a huge stink about a re-enactment of such a fire-sale of its wealth. But not America of the New American Century. If Socrates died cheerfully sipping hemlock from a chalice, we will likely reach our end propped up on a couch, watching the latest 'breaking news' of a high-speed car chase or a disappeared bride, maybe even to the background music of 'Suicide is Painless'.

July 29 - Today, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an approvable letter to Mentor Corporation, a manufacturer of silicone gel-filled breast implants, outlining specific conditions which Mentor must satisfy in order to receive FDA approval to widely market the dangerous implants - even though most experts acknowledge that the agency has no way to enforce the conditions.

"The testimony of women who suffered from silicone-gel leakage and migration to other organs, painful capsular contraction and disfigurement, and increased risk of death from suicide, brain cancer and lung cancer - all which have been documented by clinical research and recognized by FDA staff - apparently don't offset the lobbying campaign directed at political appointees like Commissioner Crawford by their corporate supporters."
