I am writing from paris, and am employed at the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce (check it out www.iccwbo.org)
I don't agree with the anaylsis given by Janeane as to competition between companies does not improve services. This is COMPLETELY ABSURD AND REPRESENTS AND REPRESENTS AN AMATEUR ANALYSIS OF THE SITUATION.
COMPETITION DOES IMPROVE SERVICE IT DOES IT DOES YES IT DOES BLAH BLAH BLAH YEP.
YOU KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE US SYSTEM IS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED IN USSR. AS LONG AS THER IS COMPETITION SERVICES IMPROVE BUT IN THE usa THERE IN NOT MUCH COMPETITION GOING ON WHEN MEGA COMPANIES BUY MEGA COMPANIES. IF I AM A COMPANY THAT OWNS ALL OF THE SERVICES IN SECTOR X THEN I CAN PUT WHTEVER PRICE I WANT AND IF THERE IS NO TRUE COMPETITION BETWEEN COMPANIES AND NO SUBVERSION OF YOUR COMPETITORS PRICES BECAUSE YOU ARE YOUR COMPETITOR BECAUSE YOU OWN YOUR COMPETITION THEN THERE IS NO COMPETITION AND YOU CONSPIRE TO FIX PRICES;
COMPETITION IS HEALTHY AS LONG AS THERE REALLY IS COMPETITION BUT IN THE US WITH THE COSOLIDATION OF POWER IN FEW COMPANIES HAND YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH THE PRICES USA = USSR

-------------------
Frequently asked questions about the Libertarian Party
What is a Libertarian?
Libertarians believe that you have the right to live your life as you wish, without the government interfering -- as long as you don’t violate the rights of others. Politically, this means Libertarians favor rolling back the size and cost of government, and eliminating laws that stifle the economy and control people’s personal choices.

A Delusional Christian - Read it and weep...
I received the following email:
Our president is a very christian person and God is directing him to everything he is doing.
We have evil in this world, which is absolutely where you are.
Start reading the bible and pray for all the Godly things and not your worldy selfish wants.
Have you heard of the Rick Warren book, The Purpose Driven Life?
I recommend you read this and find a christain family at church where you can pray to God for our president, our soldiers, and our country and thanking Him for the removal of an evil man (Saddham H.) who was killing, raping, starving and torching his own people and children.
They are now being helped by our country to get a life they have never had.
You forget quickly what happened at 9-11 and that we are not under an evil ruler, thanks to President Bush and his devotion to God.
You are free because of them .
Pray for what God wants and not all the worldly selfish wants, which is where you are.
I
s it even worth responding to this woman? If you have suggestions for ways to respond to her, please email them to me.

Sam, I just heard you say that someone practiced Wiccan, and then you went on to say as explanation, "a satinist". That is so wrong on so many levels. First, a person who is a Wiccan DOES NOT have anything at all to do with satan, or satanist. There is no hell, devil or even heaven in Wiccan beliefs. We honor the goddess and mother nature. We have nothing, whatsoever, to do with satan. Belief in the devil is anti-Wiccan. Sorry, I wasn't listening to the report as I was busy writing this.

Probe: Boy Scouts Lied About Black Members
By DANIEL YEE, Associated Press Writer
In one example, an official changed the birth date of 87 Cub Scouts so they would be old enough to participate in the program. In another case, an official continued to report membership of a church Boy Scout unit although the church had burned down three years earlier.
The inflated numbers also included 200 Scout units that did not exist.

Smithee:
The definition of Libertarianism sounds good; the problem is that it doesn't get into the details, which would be to basically privatize everything, even fewer controls over big business, no taxes to support the commons or those in need, international trade deals that permit further outsourcing of American jobs...and so on. Not too good unless you're rich, and even then--what about maintaining the infrastructure? Not that it's being maintained now.

They said it included:

If Bush stocks the Supreme Court with his brown shirts they will not enforce a Theocracy. The "Bible" Govt. only goes as far as the vote. Abortion the same way- they won't touch it. This is 100% about Corporations and money. So why not leave the religion out of it huh? You really think the judges are going to overturn Roe v Wade? Bush doesn't care about that issue. Sometimes it's fucking stupid.
Sometimes it's fucking great.
George Noory and Art Bell seem to like two things:
1.) Stories about the paranormal.
2.) Stories about imminent world doom.
Hence, as a listener you get:
1.) Stupid, boring shows about UFO abduction.
2.) Smart, fascinating shows about peak oil.
Go figure. I'll take what I can get. I tune in at the beginning to see what they're talking about. Sometimes I switch it off. Sometimes I stay up all night, listening (and even taping).

This Saddam stuff almost makes sense.
I am convinced that Saddam started out as a CIA asset who got independent and could no longer be controlled, so the neocons finally had to take him out.
The oil-for-food scandal and the sales in Euros tend to bear this scenario out, as does the "Big Gun" project with the late Dr. Gerald Bull.
By the millennium, Saddam had become quite a recalcitrant pest for the neocons, as well as a threat to the U. S. economy.

I think the reason Craig Bierko is going to be on Thursday is because he plays Max Baer in the film Cinderella Man. Max Baer was a former champion who went on to play Jethro Clampett in the Pullitzer Prize nominated TV series The Beverly Hillbillies.

Interesting footnote from the article...reveals Bush's phony christian ethics:
4. Pastor Ted is aware that his martial plans alarm some outsiders; in Primary Purpose he writes that when he began his campaign for Colorado Springs, “spiritual warfare was not a popular subject. . . . I didn't speak publicly about my own experiences.” Even today, in his more mainstream position atop the NAE, Ted's belief in less than full disclosure persists. Last fall, when the evangelical journalist Ayelish McGarvey asked Pastor Ted why President Bush, as a Christian, had not apologized for the false assertions used to justify the Iraq war, or for the dishonest smears marshaled on his campaign's behalf, Ted said: “I think if you asked the President these questions once he's out of office, he'd say, ‘You're right. We shouldn't have done it.’ But right now if he said something like that, well, the world would spin out of control! . . . Listen, I think [we Christian believers] are responsible not to lie, but I don't think we're responsible to say everything we know.”

However the assistant editor managed to get a lengthy editorial in our paper, (it was supposedly in response to a letter previously sent to the editor) anyone else have any thing similar happen?

What is important is the strength and integrity of what we write. It's the ideas that matter, IMO.

Actually Satanism comes from the theroies of Ayn Rand and is the foundation of Conservatism. If some of the people on the left could understand that the teachings of the Bible are in total unison with liberalism we could get some where.
But it's eaiser for Sam and J. to make sweeping generalizations to make themselves feel superior.

Hey mr. Sunshine
I found them interesting, but I did think they were from a kind of John Birchy - religious right point of view. I'm too pinko to go along with a lot of it.

Perkins can explain it so much more better in his book, but basically, he finally looked into the mirror and didn't like what he saw. He finally had his "ah ha" moment and knew what he was doing to these countries was just wrong.

Trubblemaker, you are TOO funny. Question: does this also apply to Steve Buscemi's version from The Wedding Singer?

I will probably read his book. But I do wonder sometimes how John Perkins sleeps at night.

I am Graphic Artist for about 30 years and a Fine Artists since a child, but because people want art quick I have to resort to clip art for cost and time constraints. Plus I have to compete with China and India. Fortunately, I do have some people who are willing to work with me because of the quality of work I do and friendship and/or because I am local, but not full time work with a salary. I worry about outsourcing.
Every new potential client so far has said words to the effect "If you give me a good price I will give you all my work." - - In other word cheap and quick. I often do things off the timer if I don't like the way it looks and still charge the same unless the guy is a real cheap sleezebag who usually doesn't know good art anyway or the more wealthy client doesn't want to know or even care. Personally I hate when they lock me into a price and then make 50 changes.
I deal with it because I love the work, but I'm suppose to re-educate myself in a new job according to the latest propaganda. I guess great art which takes time, care and concentration to do isn't important to the corporate profiteers.
Future generation may see the decline in fine arts and handcrafts in our technologically advanced nation. But who cares anyway. It's not important even though everything you own is designed by someone, even the mass produced stuff.

Woof, woof, Smithee--I agree! Onward to hour 3!

guess Perkins felt that the book was enough soap to wash himself clean. He's at least fessed up to his ill deeds. That has some amount of redemption in my book.

Steve Buscemi, God bless his little snaggle teeth; good character actor, but NOT a singer. I think he knows that.
