Two cultures...Those without power and those with power...My kid worked for the Salvation Army taking donations...He thought it was weird that those that looked like they needed the money were the ones giving and those that didn't...well didn't...

Sam, the next time you get in a discussion about Delay's ethics violations, start talking about his disgusting trip to Saipan. That low-down dirty bastard promised Saipan businesses in the sex trade (forced prostitution) and running sweat shops that he would prevent a bill in the House of Representatives, that would have given rights to the women forced into prostitution and workers in the sweat shops, from coming to a vote. 20/20 did a story about this and showed a guy from Saipan, recorded by a hidden camera, saying this.
The payments to his wife and daughter are pretty dirty, but I believe if the Saipan trip gets more attention his support among the religous right will begin to deteriorate. I believe that would excelerate Delay's ouster from Congress. What's more, I think the MSM, and right-wingers will be unable to say Democrats do the same type of thing, like they do with the story about his family.
Don't forget to bring up the TRMPAC (Texans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee) story. He fucking laundered $190,000 from corporations through TRMPAC to the RNC down to the candidates running for the Texas Legislature. This isn't just an ethics violation, it's a felony!
Texas campaign finance law prohibits corporate donations from being used for political uses, but that's exactly what the legislative candidates did.
I'm sick of hearing Delay hasn't broken any laws.

Seems they don't like Tariq's style of "rebellion" in his own native Pakistan. You see..they kill you there for dissent.
So...Tariq comes to the USA, where he can freely criticize the USA without fear of arrest or worse.

Congress to consider birth control bill - Proposal would ensure pharmacies fill prescriptions
[...] House and Senate backers unveiled a bill dubbed the Access to Legal Pharmaceuticals Act (ALPhA) on Thursday. It would allow a pharmacist to refuse to fill a prescription only if the prescription can be passed to and filled by a co-worker at the same pharmacy. [...]
[Karen Brauer, president of Pharmacists for Life] told Reuters she believes doctors will eventually begin ordering women to abort disabled children, or refuse to treat them after birth. "They'll force women to kill their children ... It will be like China. It's the next logical step," she told Reuters. (04/14/05 CNN Royce)
The next? Logical? Step?

London and Washington used plot to strengthen Iraq war push
Richard Norton-Taylor
Thursday April 14, 2005
The Guardian
Claims that a terrorist cell was planning a lethal ricin attack in Britain were used by the British and American governments in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq.
Tony Blair, David Blunkett, then home secretary, and Britain's most senior police officers, all seized on the arrests to emphasise the threat from what they called a new and highly dangerous kind of terrorist. To further press the case for war, politicians implied there was a clear link between Saddam Hussein, al-Qaida, and terrorists planning chemical or biological attacks on targets in the west, including London.
The ricin claims were seized on most strikingly by Colin Powell, the US secretary of state, in his dramatic but now discredited speech on Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction programme to the UN security council on February 5 2003, five weeks before the invasion.
Insisting "every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources", Mr Powell spoke of a "sinister nexus between Iraq and the al-Qaida terrorist network".

The Denton (NTSU) girls were friendly, gregarious & believed it was their patriotic duty to support the troops -- even liberal Yankee troops.
One particular young thing stated, "There are liberal cowgirls!" I'll always remember that.

Frankly, I think that they've been over bold in their push to socially engineer our society...
They're too far disconnected from the mainstream to predict it's actions well...They jumped on the horse before it was "broken"...It's a fine ride until the horse wants to go a different direction....Then the ride get's hammered...

Who, exactly, do the Democrats represent nowadays? Not the poor, according to the bankruptcy bill. I was a republican (I called the show a few months ago, my husband got sick during clean-up of 9/11 because of this admin's lies) and then I woke up and saw that the republicans want a Paris Hilton tax cut, but screw the elderly, sick and veterans with this bankruptcy bill.
How do we change this?? We cannot do it with a third party. I think we need to primary challenge those who don't stand up fof the middle or lower class person. I have always voted, but after the vote today, I said, "I will stay home next time, before i will vote for a democrat who votes for this bankruptcy bill." So they can go blackberrying for my vote.
As an addendum, I have been boycotting Exxon/Mobil, the two largest oil companies, as asked in an email.
Thanks,
Nancy

Sam,
I hope that you get a chance to ask Sen Debbie Stabenow why she caved. She gave me the answer below. One note though, I was polled the other day with questions that appear to indicate that she is considering running for Governor of Michigan in the next election.
I am not very happy with some of Gov Jennifer Granholm's decisions, but am even less happy with the Senator after her vote on the Bankruptcy bill.
April 11, 2005
Mr.
Warren, MI
Thank you . . .
. . for contacting me regarding your opposition to the Bankruptcy Reform bill currently being considered in Congress. I appreciate you taking the time to make me aware of your concerns.
We know that there are problems with existing bankruptcy laws.
Any effort at bankruptcy reform must strike a balance between consumer protections and personal responsibility. I believe the Senate bill strikes that balance and introduces personal responsibility into the bankruptcy
process in a fair and common-sense way.
The bill allows individuals to continue to avail themselves of bankruptcy should the need arise, but in a way that is appropriate to their financial situation. Those who truly are unable to pay their debt because they have no disposable assets would be able to enter Chapter 7 bankruptcy just as they can today. Additionally, the bill safeguards and protects our most valuable assets from creditors during bankruptcy: our homes, automobiles,
food, clothing, and insurance. The bill also protects assets used to pay for support of elderly parents, sending children to school, and paying the heating bill.
The Senate passed this bill by a vote of 75-24 on March 10, 2005.
As the bill moves through the House of Representatives for their consideration, I will be monitoring the process closely to ensure that this balance is maintained in the final legislation.
Thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please feel free to do so again whenever I can be of assistance to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator

NO, not ONLY Lieberman.
From: The Black Commentator
Debt Slavery
"The Democrats (plural, not-just-Joe)
The greatest hypocrisy on this bill may come from the Democrats, who often speak as if they are the party of working people. Some Democratic senators spoke against the bill and then voted for it. One of them, Senator Joe Lieberman, spoke for it and against it, voted for cloture (cutting off debate and moving the bill toward passage) and then voted against the bill. Another, Senator Hillary Clinton, did not vote for or against the bill. Nineteen Democratic Senators voted for the bill, while 24 voted against it. These are the 19 who chose to side with the credit card companies:
Sen. Joe Biden (D-Delaware)
Sen. Tom Carper (D-Delaware)
Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska)
Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota)
Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana)
Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Indiana)
Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico)
Sen. Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia)
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota)
Sen. Dan Inouye (D-Hawaii)
Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-Vermont)
Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin)
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-Louisiana)
Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Arkansas)
Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Florida)
Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Arkansas)
Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada)
Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colorado)
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan)
The Senate Democrats have stood strong and begun to win over moderate Republicans on Social Security. They have blocked judicial appointments. They are not powerless. They chose to let the bankruptcy bill pass."

XM Steals Air America From Sirius
As previously reported, XM has become the "official" satellite radio network for Air America Radio, and representatives for the progressive talk network tell R&R that its programming deal with Sirius, which currently has a dedicated Air America channel, will end on June 11.
Air America's deal with XM calls for the satcaster to rechristen its "XM Left" liberal talk channel as "Air America Radio" — a move that's set to occur in May. The deal also includes provisions for special live broadcasts of Air America shows from XM's Washington, DC headquarters.
Sirius spokesman Jim Collins tells R&R that it's "too soon to say" what the satcaster's programming department will do with the Air America channel but notes that Sirius already carries separate, dedicated conservative and progressive talk channels in addition to the AAR channel.

What's more dangerous, terrorists or global warming?
Terrorist WMD threat played down
TERRORIST groups and organisations have neither the capacity nor the ambition to produce weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), former UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix and other experts said at a conference in Helsinki today."I'm as concerned about global warming and its long term effects" as about the immediate threat of terrorists acquiring weapons of mass destruction, said Mr Blix, a former Swedish diplomat who was charged with searching for such weapons ahead of the US-led invasion of Iraq. "Support and co-ordination from states would be needed for terrorists to produce WMDs," he said at a conference called WMD terrorism: how scared should we be?

She has exacting standards, and Theresa Jacobs will settle for nothing but the best. So when tall and sexy Kyle Cameron struts into her tattoo parlor, she knows she's found a man with all the right moves. And the best part? He's as allergic to commitment as she is.
But just as their fling approaches sizzling, something changes. In all sorts of little ways Kyle shows her that he knows the way to treat a woman. Suddenly this fling is about more than sex. And the worst part? She's responding! So much for no strings attached. It's not so clear now what Theresa wants…except more on-the-sheets time with him.

Ha. I can't quit my job, but its so nice to know
that the president of the college is supportive of my son's father as he made it a point to talk
about the military and how he admired them.

... I bought satellite radio because of AAR so I go Sirius. Now what? Do I have to listen to the Young Turks now? Whose with me on this?
Posted by: dr. dan at April 14, 2005 09:28 PM
The Young Turks is great. I've been listening to them instead of Springer. Jill is as dumb as two sacks of hammers, though--no offense, just fact. Cenk had her going when he was talking about his childhood in Turkey. She wanted to know did the school have chalkboards and desks and such, and he said that since the school was a mud pit, which wasn't unusual since their homes were basically mud huts, they had to do their lessons by writing in the dirt with sticks. So she says, "But did you have chalkboards and desks?"
I [heart] Cenk. I'm not going back to Springer.

Posted by: 880ex at April 14, 2005 9:57 PM
Crap. The XM deal is stoopid. AAR will go from having over 5 million potential satellite listeners to about 3 million. Right now having more exposure is more important than having an exclusive contract. They need to build their audience!

Didn't the Santorums also receive a big settlement when the wife sued a chiropractor for $500K? I read it in one of Carville's books. Yeah. He claimed her back problems limited her abilities to work on his campaign and they were awarded $350K. Yet he has tried to limit settlements? Yeah...Here it is...page 245 in Carville's HAD ENOUGH.

When Atrios talked about the poor writing skills of the bloggers on Powerline, etc., and said they were on the level of high school or undergraduate college, I was shocked to find out that they weren't. How can anyone take them seriously?
